2015 Mustang GT (stock) vs. C5 Z06 (stock)

This video seems to be making the rounds--I guess numbers wise I'm not really that surprised, but it is odd seeing it happen lol.

    Let the fighting begin lol...

Now that is really sad....what a disappointment of a car the 2015 Mustang GT is........a 14 year old car whips up on it....really sad for Rustang owners everywhere!

I think it is bullshit to put the top of the line vette from that era up against a gt stang from this era. especially with the way these new cars weigh. lets see how the new Camaro stacks up....

Vette is 405 HP and the GT is 435 HP.......Either way 14 year newer car should be able to win that battle.

You think 30 hp can overcome hundreds of pounds? Plus, it's not like the vette destroyed the stang...

What does a 2015 GT weight? I was guessing around 3650-3700?

The C5Z weighs about 3118 lbs.

So yeah about 500-600 lbs weight advantage.

I still think a car designed and built back in 2001 should not be pulling on a popular performance car built and designed in 2015.

I would agree....but the same car should not drag a Camaro from the same era.....where is the vid?

Ah I didn't see that in your stipulations, only saw a car from 14 years ago. Figured I'd mention one from 23 years ago. lol.

The corvette and mustang have never been competitors, no one is surprised by the outcome.

Both of them launched for shit, but for me, the telling part is that when the GT is full accelerating, the Z06 is still pulling. I'd probably feel different if it was just a botched launch or the pulling was occurring during shifts. The numbers on these cars (known 1/4 mile times) already figured the race out, it's just very odd seeing it happen. C5 Z06s have seen high 11's stock, while I think the new Mustang GT is slightly slower than the previous model somewhere in the mid 12s. Someone far more familiar with the cars please chime in if I'm wrong on that.

In the early 2000's when the C5 Z06 was being sold new, they went for around 50K. The 2015 Mustang GT optioned out to the spec we see here is in the 40s, so it isn't as far off as you may think. Looks like the C5 Z06 was a hell of a value a few years back LOL

Hence why so expensive if you go buy a c5 z06 ....

A more even race would be a stock base c5 vs a new stang

A base C5 would struggle, in my opinion. I think I've heard of them running high 12s (like 12.7-12.8 tops), but I think the new GT would achieve that time much more easily. It would come down to drivers, but a much more lenient race for the Mustang driver.

It's more like 10hp. Plenty of info. on the interwebz where stock C5Zs dyno 360 at the wheels. That's more like 425hp crank. We all know GM and Ford love to sandbag the HP # from time to time. What are the Coyotes dyno-ing stock? 370-ish? As stated the C5Z is like 3,150lbs and the 2015 Mustang is about 3,750lbs. correct? I'm no drag racer, but math don't lie here... that's 8.75 pounds per HP on the Z and 10 pounds per HP on the Mustang. The Z should have pulled harder, imo !!!

Plus, everybody knows pushrods have magic.

Seems like the GT needs a driver mod.

Still don't get comparing a supercar from 13 years ago that would cost 65-70K today to a budget performance car that can be had for the price of a nicely equipped Toyota Camry. Of course the 600lb lighter car with nearly the same power and likely better traction is quicker. Does this really surprise people? I've seen them trap 118 bone stock at PRP, what's the best a GT trapped in mineshaft air, 115? This is like being surprised the sun came out or the sky is blue.
