Angry Barrett-Jackson ruins the market for everyday idiots like us!

I just heard this story today. It's third-hand and mostly hearsay, but I believe it. I have a buddy who works for an asphalt company in Plum. The owner of the company bought a '69 or '70 Cuda from a guy that was going through a divorce about 5 years ago. The guy getting the divorce was just jacked at the old lady and wanted out from under the thing and sold it for $10,000. Supposedly, it was totally restored and beautiful... 440 six-pack, orange, black vinyl roof, black interior. Well, buddy's boss keeps it in a garage for two years then sells it for $21,000.

My buddy calls me today and says, "You're never going to believe what I just found out." The guy who bought the car for $21,000 turns around and sells it to someone in New Stanton for $70,000. This joker takes it to the B/J Auction in Florida this winter and it fetches $121,000.

    WTF? just plain old WTF?

it happens. I think it depends on the demand of the area. you wouldn't be saying wtf if you were the one making the money off of it if someone wants to spend that much on something, let them! I know someone that charges more depending on what type of car you have. If he doesn't like the car he charges more...he looks at it that if they want it and will pay it, then thats their fault...not saying I agree with this at all but a person has to decide how much they will spend on something. I can tell you now that if I had the money for a KR I would have it...a lot of people wouldn't spend that much on a car....and some would spend more!

OSD, your thoughts are correct, but when you say "area" this is my problem. With teh innanet and cable tv, the B/J auction is in everybody's living room in the whole damn country. It makes a backwoods hillbilly (not you Jared) think his shell of a piece of rusted garbage '69 camaro with no drivetrain is worth $15,000.

Also, I feel that the auction is just a social gathering of a handfull of high fallutin millionaires/billionaires with big egos that try to outbid their colleauges. It has nothing to do with the actual cars or their respective actual values. :D

yeah, I agree with you there. but on the flip side you also have people that have no idea what they have and will sell cheap...like some people who happen to get foxbodies when they were new
