    UPR Products - grrrrrr!

So I wanted to put a UPR rock crusher shifter in my car and to say I am disappointed with the quality is an understatement. I bought the handle and knob together so I would not have any issues (or so I thought). Anyway the supplied bolts with the handle did not fit in the shifter itself (wrong threads). The supplied jam nut was the wrong thread as well. Next the UPR knob would not fit on the UPR shifter (wrong thread size again)! To top it off, the shifter did not look nor feel right in there. It sat way too low in second and fourth gear. Oh well, I bought it on Amazon so I am going to send it back.

I have heard bad things. This will prevent me from buying from them in the future.

I bought upr stuff before and it was good. Hopefully someone just grabbed the wrong thing when they put it together for you.

I have upr upper and lower control arms and am very pleased with the quality and performance. Never heard anything about their shifter. I have a tri ax in the 98 and I just purchased an mgw for the fox. Haven't got the mgw in yet, but as for the tri ax I have no complaints from it.

I saw a thread a while ago in another forum where welds had failed on a set of upr control arms. After that I've only purchased cosmetic stuff from them. I have a Tri-ax as well. Works great. I was gonna try an mgw but my Hurst handle and knob won't work with it and I wanna keep the throwback look. uploadfromtaptalk1426945385247.jpg

UPR will never get any of my money ever again. I bought 4.6 motor mounts from them and I couldn't even bolt them to the block (holes didnt line up)!!

I bought my control arms directly from upr at carlisle. I held and compared theirs and other control arms that cj pony parts was selling. Uprs looked and felt better all the way around. I know they have a couple diff ones so maybe I got the best ones they make. I would buy another set from them.

It's an 05+ s197 Hurst handle in satin finish. It's just the right size.

Here's the same handle in a polished finish.

Guys you have to know the only reason upr has cheaper prices is because of the lack of r&d. They copy everything for some of the big names in the business. I have seen the same thing from many of the cheaper companies and just because the parts look close to the expensive parts doesn't mean that they fit the same or that they are made from the same thing. I have seen some kmembers fold up, upper perch mounts bend. Buy the good stuff and be happy years down the road.

While I agree for a good portion of their offerings, some of their suspension stuff is potentially as good or better than others in the market. I'm not sure if their pro series stuff is like an advertising line so they can sell the other junk or what. I tend to avoid them myself because of the confusion, but there are indeed some guys going really f'ing fast on their "junk". Disclaimer - I do run their coil over kit because of their new thread design (works well), and beat the ever living crap out of one of their shifters for years (TriAx copy). I wore out a Pro 5.0 shifter yet that old UPR shifter is still in use on another car.

Unfortunately, this kind of stuff is seeming to be even more common in the industry, even from vendors considered the "good stuff". I ordered a K Member, CC plates, and bump steer kit from one of the big vendors now days. The CC plates didn't fit and was no better than the UPR ones I was going to replace (84 is a little odd, yet the UPR ones bolted right in, but now have a slight bend to them), and the bump steer kit came missing a jam nut, I don't feel it came with enough spacers, and in general was unfinished raw aluminum and scared me. For the bump steer I bought Steeda and it was perfect. Also FWIW, I bought the K Member because it was advertised it DID NOT move the wheels forward, yet it did (I have clearance issues with the fender extensions on my nose) ... Now I live with 165 fronts rather than a true 26" tire like I want to run.

Like anything, it's all buyer beware these days.

So by vendor, I think it's hit or miss ... I do think the premium guys like Steeda and Maximum Motorsports are better almost all the time, but all of the "mid tier" guys can be hit or miss, then you move into the real bottom feeders like Ganacopy and it's all garbage.

fwiw, maximum motorsports stuff is good quality, and they are really helpful if you call/email them and ask about suspension setups for your car.

This 100%. The entire front of my cobra is maximum motorsports and I have never had an issue with any of their parts. I will also give baseline suspension a thumbs up since I have all of their stuff in the rear and it hooks great on the street!
