I miss the old pirates, you could go to a game, not pay attention and not miss anything. Now if you dont pay attention you might miss something cool.

Most of you are way too young to have been a fan in '79, with the Fam-A-Lee team that won the World Series. This team reminds me a lot of that team.

The Cards can't keep up the pace they've been at in the first half. Remember the Brewers faded badly last year too, after a hot first half, didn't even make the playoffs. I don't think the Pirates will play .800 ball all second half either, but I think they match up well, and it will be a fun race. That series here against the Cards in the last week of the season could be huge.

I hear ya there Chuck. That '79 team was amazing. Stargell ( talk about leadership!! ), Stennett, Foli, Scrap Iron Phil Garner, Dave Parker, Omar Marino, Bill Robinson, Mike "The Hit Man" Easler, Bill Madlock ( man that guy was a hitting machine! ), Ed Ott.

And the pitching was amazing...Blyleven, Candelaria, Kison, Rhoden, Bibby, Grant Jackson, Don Robinson, Romo, and of course Tekulve.

I remember that season well. The "Stargell Stars" that the Willie would award to players after a great play or clutch hit. My jaw dropping as Blyleven would freeze the best hitters in the league with his ridiculous curve ball - I've never seen a better one. That team was really something special - even as an 11-year old I saw that. And this year's team is similar in a lot of ways. They don't ever quit - and the last series against the Cards is a great example of that. The second half of this season should be a blast to watch.

Yes, so many memories from that '79 team. I was 12 (x2 on whippersnappers), windmilled the bat like Stargell did playing pick up games, just didn't hit anything like him. :D
