The alignment thing is a perfect example. Trying to get a lowered car on a lift and potentially scraping a bumper or ripping something off isn't worth the imaginable liability issues. If the garage owns the alignment lift/computer, the entire job is profit since there aren't any consumable materials. Why do a car that's laying frame when the Camry pulling in the parking lot will take half the time and headache for the same price? Alignment shops are never short of alignments, so refusing a modded car is usually just smart business. People are sue-happy these days, and business owners will turn away anything they can to reduce those odds.
This is kinda what I was thinking. Shops are going to do the bread and butter jobs and avoid the custom stuff that takes all the extra time to work on, and not make money on it.

Unfortunately, this translates to a shop who has resources for custom stuff, which translates into more $$$. I know Sewickley BMW has a real nice alignment rack as well, but expect to pay $250+ to get your car set up.

If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it's marketed right, you'll buy it. But if it's real, you'll feel it. IG: @donuttrump

Then simply say that you (the shop) does not work of custom or modified cars. I'd appricate that.

This is why I finally just bought a set of toe plates and made a ghetto camber gauge. I equalize caster side to side, set the camber and toe where I want it for race settings, mark it, then just back off the camber when driving the car on the street.

Exactly. I started doing mine a few years ago. I use toe plates and the MM caster camber fixture.
