Well as some of you may know, I picked up this 2003 Sonic Blue Cobra at the end of last summer. The car only had 11,200 miles on it when I brought it home. I bought the car knowing it had engine issues with a awesome tick inside the motor. The person I got it from had no interest in fixing it. I had it sit in my storage sheds for a few months and around christmas moved it into my garage to finally tear it down.
Before tearing the car down I was on the strong side of thinking it was a typical head tick, but all the tests pointing towards so did not make sense. Once the heads were off, the pistons seemed to have a few unwanted marks on each of them. I got the heads finished getting surfaced, new guides, seals, etc. and there was no issue with them at all. I removed the short block at this time to have it torn down and looked over. A few days later I stop down to check it out and they found 2 wrist-pins broken. One on cylinder 3 and cylinder 8. I am surprised the car still actually ran fine. The motor got a .030 over bore, new Manley Pistons, new bearings, ARP Studs, etc.
While putting the car back together, I have added:
- Bassani Mid-Lengths
- Stage 8 Header Bolts
- Bassani Catless X-Pipe
- MM Caster Camber Plates
- 96-98 Cobra Primary Timing Tensioners
- Powermaster High Torque Starter
- Spec Aluminum Flywheel
- Spec Stage 3+ Clutch
- Borla Stingers
- SCT x4
- MM Isolators
- H&R Sport Springs
- 335 KDW tires
- 275 Handkook's
- AFS 18" Reps
- ARP Studs
- Division X 3/8 Spacers
- Short Antenna
A few other here and there things I have forgotten. The car currently runs great. Still waiting to schedule a dyno tune and get it dialed in. Looking forward to seeing all of you guys at some shows this year. I am currently finished working on this thing for a little while, short of working out a few minor things. Next winter hopefully Ill be adding some more power to this thing. Here are a few pics of the car currently:
