    "Leroy" - 1979 F100 Project

    Meet Leroy.......

    F100.jpg

This 1979 Ford F100 Custom was given to me by my brother-in-law. It has been in his family since it was purchase new in 1979. He was preparing to give it to his nephew, who decided to treat it like a hotrod with the worn out engine. It made it about 15 miles out of the driveway before blowing up. They were going to send it to the scrap yard rather than rebuild it.

That's when I stepped in. I told my Bro-in-law that I refused to let the truck get junked. I told him to name his price. He himself wanted to rebuild it, but didn't have the time or money to put into. The deal was, I could have it, as long as it stayed in the family. I had no problem with this, as I figure it would be a nice little project for my son, daughter, wife, and myself.

The truck has a 300 six, with a C4 transmission. So far I have found 4 holes where pieces of internal engine parts decided that they wanted to free themselves from their home. The engine is locked up tight, and I am currently working on removing it. It will be replaced with some form of a SBF. I am undecided yet on whether it will be a 302 or a 351w. I think that will depend on what deal comes along.

I am planning on giving the truck a little more pep, and making it more streetable. Eventually, I will be doing a Crown Vic suspension swap on the front end, and C-notching the rear for a nice drop. It is not much now, but I figured it would be a nice time to start a build thread on it. Please check back for more pictures and updates.

It will be real easy to take the motor out with the truck upside down.

Congrats! A stroked 351 will make lots of torque for not a lot of $$$. I suggest that you give Tim a call. He has done tons of them.

Tim and his dad both know about this thing already. His dad has been giving me a lot of input on it.

Your pic still isn't right Ton. Its a mirror image. I told you the site was giving me all sorts of fits earlier. It never showed me the upside down pic when I tried posting it. I thought I had it fixed

Someone at some point decided to spray paint the truck. They went right over every marker light instead of taking the 5 minutes to remove them all. I have taken about and hour sanding and trying to clean up just this one tail light. I have to do the other Tail light, and all 6 of the marker lights still. I guess it gives me something to do in the crappy weather.

    UPDATE:

Plans change from time to time. Have a low mileage 300 that I am getting to put in the truck. I have the Eclipse as a fast project, so this one would be a nice cruiser for me. I still plan on doing the Crown Vic swap, just for driveablility sake and the low and slow look.
