Hell Freezes Over...Paxton goes GM!!!

Well...it's true...and I'm really stoked about this one! It is the reason for my lack of focus and sleep over the past week.

I've been eyeing this car for a few years. It was sitting outside at the shop where my Dad's cars ('63 R2 Studebaker Avanti & '57 T-Bird) and my In-Laws' cars ('63 Studebaker GT Hawk & '48 Studebaker Commander convertible) were restored. The PO lives in New York and realized he wasn't going to get around to having it restored, so I was able to work out a deal.

Here are some details...the closer you get to the bottom the easier this will get...

2 Door Coupe

Front bench with center armrest and separately folding seat backs

3 speed automatic

4 barrel carb

Power steering, Power brakes, A/C

425 big block - 385 horsepower

1966 Motor Trend Car of the Year

Last tip removed because it was too easy...

So...here she is...our family project for the next 6-8 months...

She's a 1966 Olds Toronado

And here she is after a quick pressure washing. She's still filthy, but should clean up pretty well.

She has 53k original miles and still has all her original sheet metal. One average repaint was done but it was never buffed. It has a lot of imperfections but the car is really straight and is almost completely rust-free. The motor has a knock so I will have it rebuilt. The interior needs lots of love but I think it will clean up pretty well.

The Mustangs will be on the back burner while this one gets done. I want it to be my 3-season DD.

Hopefully my girls will prove to be great detailers. I'm going to need their help!

Do you have the bumpers? They're probably worth the $1800 alone in scrap weight!

this should be an awesome cruiser... 3 seasons? With FWD im assuming Fall, Winter, Spring? :)

I have brand new bumpers still wrapped and in the box! They are probably worth more than what I paid for the car...

A DD that appreciates is a beautiful...and rare thing. It's all about practicality. Haven't you seen all my other cars??

I figured the 14 was the 9 month DD.

Thanks John - the '14 is the "pretty much no chance of rain" DD. Tomorrow I take the Olds to AAA for VIN verification. After that she'll come off the trailer and then be in the garage up on jack stands for a serious top-to-bottom cleaning and assessment of needs.
