    No 1-3-5 gears

    2000 gt with T45.

New cable in, new quad in, new PP and clutch also in. And a new TOB. Before installing I turned the input shaft and shifted the trans. It fully engaged all the gears cleanly.

Cable nut is adjusted a couple turns beyond touching the fork.

Set it on the ground, fired her up and backed out of the garage. Went into gear smooth. Went to shift into first and it was grinding. But it slid smooth into 2nd. Since it's got 4.10's I could easily pull out in 2nd. Start down road and it wouldn't go into 3rd but slid into 4th. So basically it goes into the "down gears" but won't go into the "up" gears.

Snugged the cable a bit more but still no 1-3-5. Took shifter apart and it seemed fine. Did not pull the base off of the case though. I was tired and done for the night.

    Ideas please.

Any chance the forward stop on your shifter got moved and is keeping you from fully engaging the 1-3-5 gears?

It's not even hitting the stop.

All I did between stabbing it in and closing up the shifter inside was grease the lower shifter rod that drops into the base. Before that it would go into all the gears (with the car off-this was before I fired it up) just fine. This is weird. I need to find it what's keep it from engaging 1-3-5.

Fork a little bent? Is there a cup that the shifter drops into? Sorry these are dumb and I'm tired...

    Fork bent. Don't know.

    Shifter cup. I think so.

    Tired also. And pissed off.

Wish I could make build progress like Troll.

The lower shifter rod sits in a cup. That cup has a plastic bushing in it. That bushing was gone. It came out and was laying inside the trans. I fished it out, stuck it in and it's perfect.

I know we live in a Caveat Emptor Society, but I think I'd still call and MF that guy for selling you a car with a fried clutch. I don't remember that in his glorious description you posted.

The clutch was actually in decent condition. For some reason all the rivets holding one side of the disk on we're sheared off. I'm sure beating on it over time was the cause.

You should also mention that the hood paint peeled off when you rubbed it.

Put 200 miles on new clutch today. Ran like a champ. Until last 40 miles. Started missing and sputtering. Rough idle. Acting like a coil pack. Argh.
