    avgas

A lot of guy around here making some serious power! Was wondering if any of u guys ever played with 100LL avgas? This winter if everything goes well was planing on a cage bigger turbo and more boost on my 94. And came across some info on the bullet about avgas working pretty good in place of race gas as long as it's mixed with an octane booster contains mmt. Anybody around here fool with the stuff or should I just lean towards renegade or vp fuel? High boost would be in the neighborhood of 18# to 20#? Any input greatly appreciated.

I ran some 100LL in my '66 at the track ( last motor - 5.0 roller cam with a Paxton Novi 1200 - maybe 8 pounds of boost ) putting a measley 375 or so to the wheels. Certainly not big power but it ran really well. My buddy bought me the gas at the Rostraver airport - probably 10 years ago.

That's what I was thinking I drive past there everyday for work so it wouldn't be a problem to get plus it's like 5.00 a gallon. If it works well I'll try it but I don't wanna burn it up trying to save a few bucks. So it seemed to work good for you?

Yep seemed to work well. But I only used it at the track one day and a little on the street. 10 gallons worth.

It won't burn anything up. It's research octane is around 108-110 car octane. People cry about it because it has de-icers and some lead(which is good) as long as you don't have wide bands it's way better than 93 pump scum gas. Why not just e85 ?

Thanks for all the replys guys. I would have done E85 but I'm blow thru carb deal and the carb is brand new from csu and I hate to send it back for a recal for e85 and spend a bunch more on it. Plus If the car puts down what it should with the bigger turbo my pump would probly be getting close to max on E85. But it should have some wiggle room on gas.

Bringing this back from the dead because I'm getting ready to order the turbo now. Any of u guys ever purchase this stuff at rostraver airport? It says they are self serve but the pumps are inside a fenced in area just wondering what kind of hoops u have to jump threw to get it the airport will obviously not tell u anything over the phone.

Ok thanks I'll try that. I'll see what happenes. Thanks I'm going to see what I can come up with next week.
All I read on the bullet and other places say that the stuff spiked with a little octane booster containing mmt will be about 110 ish octane which would give me a nice tuning coushion.

I used to buy Avgas at the local airport when in HS for my snowmobile when I was drag racing and they would only let us buy it if it went into a 5 gallon can. Probably the same these days.

Years ago my buddy got me AV gas ( 100 low lead is what he called it ) from the Rostraver airport. He owns a hangar there so it was convenient. Can't remember what it cost, but he got me 2 5-gallon cans of it.

Thanks for the replys guys. Yea I called the other day bc rostraver is a self serve station to ask about it but they don't really wanna discuss it over the phone at all. Imma just stop in tell them it's for a small plane I'm building if anyone asks and hopefully I can get it to try without any hassel. If it's to much headache I'll scrap the idea and go to renegade 110.

A buddy of mine only runs this in his BBC Impala. He lives near Somerset and gets all he needs from the small airport there... It's self serve but the only thing he needs to do is enter a "tail number" - he just punches in random numbers and does not have an issue getting it and the car runs AWESOME!
