    cobra heads

How good are the cobra gt-40 heads for a 5.0? I am just looking for a basic step up upgrade. they will be ported and polished by my buddy. I found a couple sets for 300-500 bucks and which compared to alot of heads i been checking out is cheap. I have made a list of the upgrades im going with and i figure these would work well with them but what you guys think gt-40s a good step up upgrade and worth the money? I will be running a gt-40 intake, 3/8 spacer, gt-40 elbow with a e-303 cam with 24lb injectors, 190 lph, 76mm mass air, 70mm throttle body.. Thats what i have in my head cuz i have the dream list at my house.. I was looking around 300 at wheels also. Would those heads and this setup have that in my future?

IMO, you'd be better off with a set of GT40P's from the 97.5-up explorer/mountaineer. They require their own specific header, but they seem to produce more power than the older style GT40's.

You will not see 300 to the wheels with that setup, figure more along the lines of 260-275.

GT-40 heads are ok. If you are going to go through the task of tearing your motor down, I would go with something a bit more aggressive so it is worth it. Up to you though. I have seen people do great port with with those!

I have the GT40P's on my coupe. They're alot better then an E7, but won't hold water against any of the aluminum heads on the market.

Save up and buy a nice aluminum set. AFR 165/185, Twisted Wedge, etc.

GT-40 or GT-40p heads (ported and polished)
    F-303 cam
    30lb injectors
    225lph fuel pump
    76mm mass air
    75mm throttle body
    NOS wet kit

not sure what intake to get, was thinking edlebrock performer rpm..

Like before i am looking for 300+ at the wheels. Any input would be great. I am going to start buying up parts right after i sell some stuff and buy an alum driveshaft.

hey, dude, i had a car running 11s on a close combo to that... and for the street those heads work very well and they respond great to a port job...

One quick thing that jumped out at me is the 76mm mAF you have listed. I assume you are refering to a C&L, if you are I HIGHLY recommend re-thinking that. The 94-95 cars do not respond well to the C&L's at all. I suggest getting an 80mm Pro-M meter.

There is a thread on the corral in the 94-95 section dedicated to breaking 300rwhp with GT40p's, I think 2 have done it. You might want to search for that thread as it has a lot of useful information in it.

You can get 300+ to the wheels on the bottle. Its not going to happen N/A with those heads tho. TFS/AFR heads with better cams and intakes only hit around 290rwhp.

Not trying to bash your idea, just giving you a heads up. If I could afford a new h/c/i combo, I'd sell you my p&p GT40ps, headers, and Edelbrock intake

I'm telling you what will and won't work. I'm not giving an opinion, its the TRUTH.

I have a CAI, 75mm Maf, 75mm TB, Edelbrock intake, GT40P heads, custom cam, FMS shorties, 255lph pump and 24lb injectors ON MY CAR. I'd guess my car is only around 260rwhp.

In terms of bang for the buck, the TF kit is hard to beat. Contact Rick at http://www.rnhperformance.com for a great price on it. I prefer AFR heads over TF, but strictly from a bang for the buck standpoint, the TF kit is unrivalled.

Just have to be a little more conservative on cam choice.
