Tuning question - 2014 Mustang GT

I was wondering if installing a set of Kooks long tube headers along with a catted x or h pipe will require a tune immediately ? I understand, to get the full benefit of any performance upgrade a tune on these newer cars is needed, but is it required. If I go with a catted mid-pipe, would that make any difference in needing / requiring a tune or not ? Is it just the off-road pipes that will throw the check engine light / codes or is it any modification to the intake / exhaust track ? Thanks in advance

I installed long tubes and off road mid on my '14 without a tune, and did datalogs to send to the tuner without being tuned. That being said, I wouldn't even consider it. The cars are just too sensitive. Plus a tune from AED is a fraction of the cost of the exhaust anyway.

sometimes the high flow cats throw a code ,even if you get a hand held like an x4 you can turn off the rear 02's, i did that till i loaded my custom tune

This. My 09 wouldnt pass emissions even with high flow cats. It kind of turned me away from modding newer cars that need emissions testing.

Tom - your 09 that wouldn't pass emissions with high flow cats - was the car tuned ? Would it pass after a tune or never pass at all ?

getting a newer car to pass emissions testing without the proper equipment is a pain, albeit doable.
Your best bet really is to drive the car less than 5000 miles a year and get an exemption.

You could just roll the dice and not put a sticker on it. I've had my G8 for over 5 years now and have put about 110,000 miles on it in that time. It's never had an inspection sticker on it, lol. I was curious how long I could make, so far so good.

The AED tune I have supposedly passes emissions. All they do is plug it in. Unless they crawl under the car you should be fine. Do some research on SVTP to see if anyone else offers it. I just had to leave my rear o2s in. I was just under 5k so it is exempt but I have had a bunch of catless obd2 shit pass as long as it isn't throwing codes. Most inspection guys I imagine never even look under the car.

I played that game for a bit. Made it close to two years and then got two tickets within a week of each other totaling $220....

It was supercharged and tuned, never passed. I ended up registering it to another county that didn't have emissions.

Talked to lethalperformance and Kooks - related to my question of whether or not there was a difference in the catted vs off-road pipes throwing CEL codes : in my case ( an otherwise stock car ), it's going to be the long tubes that are the reason for the codes, not the converters. I wonder if a basic handheld SCT would have a pre-loaded tune for exhaust mods that would get me until I can swing the custom tune
