Opinions on Online Used Car pricing sites?

I'm curious as to which online price guides/tools (Edmunds, Kelly Blue Book, etc.) members are using and which they find to be most accurate or reliable. There seems to be a fair amount of variability in the pricing, you'll see pretty big differences between KBB and Edmunds, for example. I'm thinking of general used car pricing, not specific to musclecars.

I don't put much clout into them. But I use kbb as a general reference.
You're really better off just looking at similar cars in the area and what they are going for.

^^^^ Yep - KBB is usually low for my taste - my stuff is always clean and KBB pricing just doesn't reflect that.

Depends on what you're using it for..... If you're using it to guage the trade-in value of your car, then KBB and NADA are both WAY off.... In the last couple years I've either traded or looked at trading (and sold privately) a Lexus IS350, Jaguar XF Supercharged, BMW X5 4.8i and Cadillac SRX, all in tip-top shape, and the dealers will come in well below the poor condition KBB number.... dunno why, I'm sure they're just trying to rip you off, but that's the kind of offers they've made to me.....

If you're looking to find what is a good purchase price for something, then i'd just use AutoTrader and look at the current market.... and make a judgement call on what you think is a good price to pay for the car you're looking at.

"the reason kbb/nada is around is so you can't low ball me and rip me off on the trade in" works pretty well for that. I can usually get nada trade in value, kbb is a higher though. I also dont trade in as high end cars as you either.

Some dealers will also give a few k off the price, but lowball the trade in, it ends up even at the end.
