Picked up a couple bottles while I was in Norfolk by some VA-based distillers.
The Filibuster rye is definitely not what I expected. It has a more pine taste (like gin) rather than oak, and the overall feel is closer to scotch. Straight it's a bit much. A couple of ice cubes made a world of difference smoothing it out.
The Bowman Brothers is amazing, I haven't had a bourbon quite like it. It's very oaky (reminds me of Four Roses single barrel), with a cherry taste to it, and completely smooth. I wish I'd have bought two bottles. I need more excuses to travel to VA for work!

Bowman Brothers is solid. It's a Buffalo Trace product.
Simplified it's Elmer T Lee Mash and Eagle Rare Mash mixed together then aged on the other side of the Appalachians.
