Dip my truck?

Ok dippers........talk to me. Thinking about giving the DD Ranger a dip job. Grey. What kind of condition does the paint need to be in to be covered in dip? Overall the paint is ok (no rust) with a few areas of bleaching where the sun destroyed the clear and it's gotten into the paint. I've wanted to dabble with this stuff and the DD seems like the one to try it on.

All I did was wash it real good with some purple power in the bucket and mask off what I didn't want painted.

You have to peel the tape and masking stuff while it is still wet or you will pull up more than you want.

I would defiantly order a gallon or two and use a spray gun. Way faster and easier.

Yep if your peeling a tape line on a smooth surface you need to peel the tape every coat and reapply it or the line will rip jagged when you pull it after your final coat. For example when I do the line on the fender when I add a bra on my truck for winter. Plastidip will peel cleanly on an edge so you will wanna spray over your window trim for example and then peel it off instead or trying to tape it off. I usually tape an inch back from and edge, like where window trim actually meets the body, that I'm gonna peel. Then you peel that inch off when your done. Also make sure you do at least 7 coats or it will peel like shit. Also if you get a spot you can't peel off that you want to remove or overspray, rub it with goo gone and it will strip it right off. Also get on YouTube and watch a video or 2. There's plenty of how tos on there. Edit: Search iamthepuzzleman on YouTube. He sprays cars in his garage with a home paint sprayer while drinking beer which is more than likely how you will be doing it. He shows how he mixes the paint to save money etc. I learned to do the bra thing from his videos. Here's a link to one of his videos.

Edit: Also one more tip I just thought of. If you end up using spray cans, which would suck for a whole vehicle, I sit my cans in hot water. When the cans are warm the plasti dip lays a lot smoother. Cold cans have more of a bedliner look. This is important especially if your doing it in the winter.

I can confirm, we have done a few dip jobs here with Tom's spray gun. Getting it clean is the important part.

The black on my hoods/fenders is PlastiDip, and we did Dewayne's entire car the anthracite gray. It's really not that hard to do.
