Agreed, I would look for a forged joint without the hole for the grease fitting if you can find one. much stronger.

I agree it looks cast. I haven't found a forged one yet, but I'll pick one up as a spare if I find one.

I didn't purposefully abandon this thread. I've been busy with other aspects of the build. The trans is completely together and (mostly) in the car. I say mostly because I tweaked my arm twisting it into position to line up the bolts. I'll finish it up in the next day or so after my arm feels better.

I had to cut about 1/2" off the pivot ball threads in order to get it low enough. I ended up with it being 7/8" from the bell to the bottom of the pivot head. If it's not quite perfect I can make adjustments with the adjustable clutch cable.

Due to lack of choices I went with GM bell housing alignment pins from Lakewood. They are extremely close to the size needed for the mod motor, but not quite perfect. One big issue is the mod motor dowels are hollow and are also bolt holes. Offset dowels cover these bolt holes! I'm not exactly thrilled about losing two bolts, but I also don't want to trash the bearings in the new $5K trans. Long term I plan on working out an offset dowel design with my machinist that is also hollow.
My bell was 15 thousands offset, and 5 thousandths is the allowable play.

McLeod RXT twin disc. You can see the marked dowels turned to the best positions.

Put an indicator on the offset dowels while in the correct position, identify new hole center location on the bell, weld up existing hole and redrill at the correct location so you can use the factory dowels and keep the bolts.

Good idea, but I don't have the equipment for that precise of work. I also determined the bell is too thick to weld to for my 100v MIG.
I spoke with my machinist friend, and in the future he'll make me a custom set of hollow offset dowels. For the moment I'll use the solids.

I figured a shop would weld up the flange and identify the new hole center with your dimensions provided.

I hope you don't snap an ear off the block....

how many bolts stock...6 or 7? you will run 4 or 5 now?

Yes 7 down to 5, but the solid dowels will also provide strength against sheering.

There are also 8 additional bolts holding the bell to the engine block plate.

Sorry for the repeated information across my threads, but I find it necessary to add more information to this TR3650 thread regarding the driveshaft lengths. The QuickTime bell housing pushes the trans back around 1/2", making the stock length driveshaft too long. I opted to go with an 03 Cobra driveshaft, which is a good bit shorter than the stock GT style. My machinist made a 3/4" spacer, and I went with some 45mm ARP bolts to make up the difference.

    Driveshaft too long

99-04 GT driveshaft length center-to-center vs. 03/04 Cobra. Notice the larger 1350 u-joints holes for the Cobra

    Driveshaft spacer

    Yoke position

M12x1.75x45mm ARP bolts for spacer. I did not use the washers due to clearances and bolt length.
