I refreshed the finish about 20 years ago. The coating is actually a dark gray not black.

    Don,
Good Morning Sir. How are you? I just stumbled across this site and joined, literally minutes ago!! Funny, i'm building an 86 notch for my daughter, and because of the RPM airgap, 1/2 phenolic spacer, there is no way an air cleaner will clear. When I asked her what scoop would you want she picked out the Mach or storming norman version...lol Never got to see one on a 4 eye. I think it looks absolutely kick ass!!! Unfortunately, I'm not going to visit my parents in South Jersey anytime soon...or i would snatch that hood up TODAY!!

I appreciate the complement. I am going with the 2 1/2" cowl hood. I just sold the Mach 1 hood today. Here is the current hood I will be using!

One thing to note, if your daughter has a hard time seeing over the dash, the 2 1/2 cowl takes up a lot of area/ vision. I really liked the 1 1/2 Mach one hood for visability but I need the clearance for the future engine.

x2 on that. My wife can't see out of my Capri. That's why we search for an 1 1/2" hood. Got really lucky to find one that was even the right color
