Thought my Taurus was dead but it's still kicking!

I was driving home the other day and my Taurus developed a SEVERE miss. It was so bad I was sure it was internal (rocker arm, piston) and the SES light never came one (weird). I was able to pull a code and it was a #2 misfire. On a SWAG, I replaced the coil pack and VOILA, back to normal. I was fearing the worst because how bad it was. $60 later, I am back in business. That is good because I really didn't want to buy another car right now and I did not want to DD my Mustang all summer. Win for me!

What year? Ford had a bad run of coil packs in early 2000's. I had a 2001 Ford Escape with 3.0 and 4 of 6 of them went bad before 80K... good guess!

Good call - misfire on early 2000's Fords almost always points to coil packs. Often the aftermarket pieces fail quickly, so stick with Motorcraft and stay away from Accel or other brands / eBay specials.

It's a 2006. Ron, I might have to upgrade because I bought the cheapest one AutoZone (see: ValueCraft) in case my guess was wrong and I could not return it.

I hear ya - I had to replace all 8 coil packs on my 2005 F250 5.4 3V. Rock Auto had the best price on Motorcraft - like $350 for all 8 I think.

Whoa! This was only a $60 fix. Thank God for 6 cylinders!
