It's a Motive Gear .... Not many options in 4.30 gear sets (Motive or Yukon)

nope, out of the box (and that's what's in it now). I have broke a lot of crap in rear ends and never actually hurt a ring or pinion. Going to shop around at Columbus, hoping I can find a lightened gear or old FMS 4.30 set to have as a spare.
I have to say, I'm used to breaking shit ... That's the reality when you are trying to run what I'm running with 140 cubic inches ... This one really hurt to buy a new R&P right now. I've been playing catch up all year on parts and stuff. Was getting ready to deal with the "diaper rule" so I can race locally, and instead bought a new gear I wasn't expecting.It's crying now.

Not surprised. Last two sets of 4.30 gears I have used were Motive. I broke a ring gear and then a pinion.

Well this thread helped push me to which gear I'll be using. I have a 4.10 Precision Gear that I'll go with instead of the 3.90 Motive.

Not only did I fail at building a fast mustang but I bought a yellow zo6 cause I couldn't get my little dick up.
I'm not sure precision is any better / different than Motive. In some circles, Motivd is actually a preferred gear supplier.
i just wish they still made a FMS 4.30
FWIW I broke a tooth off a stock Ford 3.55 pinion also. Shifting into 4th on the highway in my old ported eaton cobra

I thought I read somewhere that Ford Racing gears are made by Motive too.
I had to look that up. Seems Ford makes their own at their Sterling Axle plant.

it seems like motives have gone down to richmond quality level lately. and agree the FMS gears are the ones i favor currently for 8.8 application.
LOL, down to Richmond quality ... when we was talking about gears ,no one even mentions them any more.
The problem is, FMS keeps dropping ratio's ... I even considered going back to 26" tires and a 4.10 to get back to them. We will see how this one holds up with regular lube instead of the Redline Shockproof
think motive bought richmond last year if recall? and noticed a lot of richmond gears are on back order for obscure rear ends that used to be readily available
