I actually put 300 plus miles on this car this weekend including 2 real easy passes down the track with no problems. I replaced the clutch last week-end because of the noisy throwout bearing. There was no pilot bushing or bearing in the car at all. Nice and quiet now. I am glad The TOB was noisy. It probably saved the input shaft bearing from getting trashed due to the missing pilot bushing / bearing.

Love the car and was really liking the early Keystone sticker from the original post. How did the car do when you took it down the track ? Happy with the results at the track ?

You would be surprised at how much was hacked on this car. If I could have seen the future I would not have bought it, but it is still a clean Chevelle and now that I can actually drive it it is growing on me.

I left like I was driving away from a stop sign and shifted at 5000. It was not setting any speed records driving like that. I am not pushing it until I replace the 50 year old axles. If one broke and tore up the 1/4 panel I think I would throw up. I wasn't even planning on going down the track. I went up to drop something off for Jim the announcer and to watch for a while. I didn't realize the Street Outlaws were there and it was 25 to watch or 30 to race. I just spent the extra $5 and ran it.

I actually got to talk to the guy who owned this from the early 70's until about 8 months ago. He knew the original owner from what I understand. This car was special ordered by the original owner for the purpose of drag racing at Keystone. This car was on that track the first year it was open. The original engine and trans. both met their maker on that track within a year or 2. The car was a 327, Muncie 4 Speed, with a 4.56 12 bolt from the factory. I never had the rear end cover off. I now see why I am so gear locked on the highway (55 mph = 3200rpm). He still has the original window sticker for the car, but does not seem to want to give it up. I wish he would. I also wish he would let me make copies of pictures he has of the car over those 45 years.

I didn't. With all the stuff that was wrong with car I am afraid to rev it to 7500 with-out going through the engine. I wouldn't really care if I blew the engine up, but I wouldn't want end up in the wall if it let go and got oil on the back tires. Plus the 50 year old axles and wheel studs.
