    Ran my first marathon

Yesterday I ran my first marathon, andI can honestly say I never thought I'd do such a thing. Final time was 3hr 24min (7:48 pace), and came in 31st out of 433 runners. Not enough for any placement, but I was sure happy with the time. It was every bit as difficult as I expected it to be. My training runs went up to 21 miles, but at a much slower pace. Lots of unknowns going in, but it went well I'd say. A day later, sore is an understatement.
This was the Marshall University Marathon. They gave you an optional football to run across the finish line with. Kinda silly, but hey free football for the kids!

Thanks man! No Ironman for me unless I get a LOT better at swimming and biking. I suppose the next step for me would be a 50K race (31 miles).

Only a couple, and usually can be fixed with the correct shoes. Currently not missing any!
Now ultra runners are a different story. Some actually don't have any toenails.

Big nope from me. Never been a runner. I'd definitely much rather do a 100 mile cycle ride.

I do believe any one can do it, barring major health issues, if they train, but I have no desire lol.
That is solid placement for your first one though !

Last year was my first half marathon and my first 10K, so yeah within a year a reasonably fit person could run and do fairly well. Of course undertraining can lead to disaster.
