    Made in America?

I searched for "cars made in america" out of curiosity. After all, we live in a global economy from what I have heard. Found the site "dmv.org". According to this site, here it is. Tesla is 100% made in america. Jeep 89%, Cadillac 86%, Dodge including Ram 83%, GMC 80%, Acura 71%, Chevrolet 70%, Ford 64%, Toyota 61%, Buick 60%. My family drives Dodges and Jeeps. Must say Ford's number kind of surprised me.

I always find this to be a bit of a conundrum about who to support and at what level. By level I mean the company overall, the upper management, the parts manufacturers, the vehicle assemblers, and then the dealerships. Obviously just buying a car supports the company overall. I'm not including the design phase. I think this is enough of a ramble.
Buying a US-owned, foreign-made car would exclude the vehicle assemblers and parts manufacturers, and therefore have a negative impact on US jobs.
Buying a US-owned, US-made car would be ideal for supporting US jobs across the board.
Buying a foreign-owned, US-made car would still be supporting vehicle assemblers and potentially parts manufacturers, and still have a positive impact on the US economy, but will certainly support foreign upper management wallets.
Clearly a foreign-owned, foreign-made car would have the least positive impact on our economy, aside from some dealership and specialized maintenance jobs.

So do you buy a Kia Optima assembled in Georgia or a Ford Fusion assembled in Mexico? Which company is rolling more $ back into the US economy and creating the most US jobs?
What about ongoing maintenance? When I replace parts on a Fusion are those likely made in the US or elsewhere? Kia parts are more likely to be made in Korea.

Thoughts? What part of the chain is "more" important to support in an effort to boost the US economy?

Here is a good article about this: Foreign Cars Made in America: Where Does the Money Go

And here is a great site that ranks how much a vehicle purchase benefits the US economy: Made in America Auto Index

Big difference between "made" and "assembled".

Very complicated issue for sure. And data can be skewed in many ways to make a point. Manufacturers do it all the time. I just cringe though when I see Kia/Hyundai/Toyota etc with American flags waving from it and a patriotic bumper sticker.
