NMRA stick shootout

We came to Bowling Green to take a shot at the stick shootout, fastest 8 True Street cars with a manually operated transmission ...

my junk did what we asked it to do, qualified #5 of 8 cars ... got a plaque, hat, winners jacket, nd get to run off on Sunday for a RXT clutch. None of it matters, 4 banger hung with some fast stick cars

Home and unloaded, what a weekend...

rained out Thursday to test. first hit Friday I blew the tires off on an aggressive tuneup. decided that all it was going to take was better than 10.50 to make the shootout, so I put my soft launch tuneup in the car and went 10.38. Figured the was so.id enough and left that tune up for true Street on Saturday.

no issues on the cruise, went 10.39, 10.41, and 10.37 on my 3 passes. There was the typical NMRA shit show with the results being messed up. Left the awards in the 8 car shootout, we thought 5th... turned out the car they had in 3rd was an auto, so I ended up qualified 4th Saturday morning.

the shootout was supposed to be some Chicago ladder handicapped by your true street average with no break out. No one liked that ladder format and all 8 of us agreed to chip draws for pairs.

first round I pulled my buddy Mike Niehouse, low 9 second car. He hit the tires and I made a solid pass for the win.
second round I drew the turbo Cobra that wins most of these things. About half track I looked in the mirror and saw smoke that kept getting worse
in the final it was another good friend Jeff McCool and me. He had me on the tree and I didn’t have enough to run him down.

Beside the first pass when I blew the tires off, I never touched anything but rear tires all weekend. Ran a best of 10.37, worst of 10.43 in the final in the heat of the day. Could of tried turning the car up but last happy with the car doing everything I asked and drove it back in the garage today.
