    1940 ford coupe

I know I posted pictures of this before on here but I finally have the title in my name from my dad. Story on the car...

Man who bought it new in 40’ went blind immediately after buying it. He went to church where my great great uncle was the preacher. He gave him the car in 1941 with the understanding he would drive him when necessary. My grandpa bought the car from his uncle after returning from Korea and drove it almost daily until 67’. It sat from then until 1994. My grandpa started work to get it road worthy but he passed away shortly after. Car was left to my dad.

Intentions are keep it nearly stock, maybe some 50’s era mods and lower it a bit. Initially I’m just getting it driveable then going from there. 85hp flathead V8 standard business coupe with fold down opera seats (in the trunk).

    Me and the car 1994

    As it sits

Engine...we have 3, my dad tells me this is not the correct engine for the car. Think grandpa scrapped the original when he swapped in a newer mercury. Something he regretted later

I’m not sure what your timeframe looks like, but if the car is able to make it to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix’s Walnut Street Invitational Show, I’d love to include it. Our spectators would be crazy about it!

    Great honest coupe!

Good possibility it will be mobile by then. It won’t be pretty but it should run and drive

Yes you did for sure. The cars in my name now so I’m putting on the push to get it mobile. I’ve been buying parts the last month or so.

It won’t be for a long time. If it were just mine I wouldn’t at all but it was the direction my grandpa was heading with it. So out of respect for what he wanted for the car sooner or later I will. He
Wouldn’t get the patina thing. It was repainted (poorly) in the 60s at Earl Scheib. My dad was along for the trip, just a kid at the time

    Running is priceless.

    Pretty is over-rated.

I wonder if you could buy a running flathead for a lot less cost/effort than getting one of the engines you have in shape?

The one in the car ran no issues. It still turns over so I expect a weekend would make it work. It was rebuilt right before my grandpa passed away

I think a story board with a lot of old photos would make an awesome display Jim. Car people will like the car as-is, but knowing the history of the car is what will really make them go bananas.

Unfortunately there was some family fallout, we don’t have many pictures period. The car was minimally photographed I’m sure... it was just the DD at the time. I do have old family films from the 60s. Should look to see if it’s in the background
