    Next up....

Some of you might remember the ‘95 Impala SS my 13 year old son and I were working on a few years ago? We fixed it up and sold it for a profit to start his first-car fund. After that we made some quick money on a very boring ‘97 Grand Marquis and my 15 year old had enough cash to keep a 2003 Acura CL Type-S 6-speed I brought home.

Cue the next kid... and our next project!

Its a 1975 Hurst/Olds. It’s been in heated storage for 31 years. Original 455 Quadrajet and TH400... and the Hurst Dualgate shifter. Also has the original Hurst T-tops... these were allegedly GM’s first T-tops.

    More to come!

One does not see many A bodies from those years still looking solid. Should make for a nice rarely seen ride.

Looking on Hemmings. That was the most sold Hurst/Olds ever that year. Looks like they have some decent value too. They also look pretty good cleaned up for the year. So lots of potential for a cool ride when done, especially with white walls gone.

Swivel buckets? Yep! And the Hurst cars had reversible cushions too.

This will be a slow and steady project, certainly not a quick flip.

We scrubbed bed some of the grime off of it today and ripped the rugs and trunk mat out... they were tattered and stunk.

I’ve seen it run with gas dumped into the carb. Tank was supposedly drained in 1988 when it was stored. Prior owner dumper 3 gallons into it but I don’t think the fuel pump has found it yet. The water pump is froze so all 4 belts scream when it does run.

We hope to steam clean 31 years of disgusting off the seats and interior this week. It’s really gross.

Our top priorities will get a battery, belts, water pump, and radiator (it leaks). Change the oil, and see if we can get it to idle on gas from the tank. Then I think it gets dropped off likely for brake lines, master cylinder, etc so we can stop it.

At that point it will be mobile and we’ll chase interior stuff, spend lots more time under the hood, and address some minor body issues.

I’m already scanning for a set of raised white letter 225/70-15’s because those whitewalls are horrible on this car!

    it got a bath today.

I definitely think you’re ahead of the curve on this one Greg. Great find.

Wow is that paint as good as it looks in picture? Looks like it needs a good buff job.

The paint isn’t perfect but I think it’s salvagable. It was respayed in 1987 or so. It’s not a fantastic job but it’s certainly not a total mess either. There’s a couple little bubbles that need some attention but I think it’s all pretty minor.

We gave the top of the right rear quarter a quick taste of some polish and it’s got potential. There’s some orange-peel that the right person might be able to heal.

I’m still feeling out how much we can spend and where the market reallly is for these.

The good thing is that elbow grease is free!

edit...so it was painted in 1987...and then stuffed in a garage in 1988? So 1 year of potential weather on the “new” paint. Not bad!

C’mon along! Steam cleaned the interior today. Not done but it’s much less worse. We’re getting a better feeling for what we have... it’s pretty good. It won’t be perfect when we’re done, but it will be a decent #3 car with plenty of upside for the next guy if they want to spend more.
