    Shipping wheels

Has anyone shipped wheels out or bought wheels off a private party and had them shipped? Is it expensive? Who did you use for shipping?

I have shipped wheels. Cost depends on where they are going. Fed ex is usually cheapest for bigger heavier stuff. I get uhaul moving boxes to ship used wheels. The boxes are cheap there. Just a rough guess would be 20 to 25 per wheel. Going out west can be way more. You can get estimtes on fed exs ot the usps websites.

It’s wheels and tires. 20 inch not sure what size box I would need? I would have him deflate the tires to save some weight

I had tires and wheels shipped to me from Colorado. Shipping cost was $150. Each one had cardboard covering the front / rear sides of the rim. The tires were wrapped with 6" packing tape around the tire and the cardboard sheets. Pretty cookie cutter and everything arrived good. Wheels lone are easier with them placed in individual boxes. There is some fee for shipping tires like a FET tax or something.

Like I said, wrap each one and consider it four separate packages.

I've shipped 2 sets of wheels with tires in the past, one set to California one to Florida. FedEx was the cheapest, $475 to CA, $275 to FL. Both sets got damaged during shipping. I was OCD when I packaged them....... bubble wrap, saran wrap, cardboard cutouts covering the wheel, then into a heavy duty cardboard box that was reinforced. Still took a beating during shipping. I insured them, but both sets of wheels were discontinued for years so it wasn't like you could grab another off the shelf. Both buyers filed a claim and got partial re-embursement, but it was a big pain in the ass. I'll never ship another set of wheels with tires.
