this one almost went 2 full seasons. The one before this went 5 full seasons (and the block is still usable for less power)

It's been on my radar to put fresh rings in the old block to be a spare for me, but more targeted as a spare for my wifes car. Putting it off got me in the arse for this season I guess. Getting my shit back together this winter with parts and spares.

Unfortunately that's what it took to run 9's (38#) and 10.00 (36#). In some ways that's not a good thing. Need to improve things to run those same numbers with less boost. Still some inefficiencies / bottle necks in there.

I guess things get less exciting going forward. I have made the conscious decision I have hit the end of what I intend to do with this car and am (for now as a disclaimer). Pretty satisfied with it as a 10.00 type deal that can dip into the 9's when I need to. NMRA/NMCA has really clamped down on the tech stuff (good thing) but to run in the 9's at all I would need to bring everything up to standard, and that brings 10 point, window net, double layer suit, NHRA license (have my IHRA), move my battery and disconnect, etc. etc. The one time costs for that are high enough, but the reoccurring costs for renewals and certs are just silly for the few times I need it. As they have clarified the rules, as long as a 3 pass True Street average is 10.00 or slower I'm ok. They told me I could go 8.50 on one pass as long as the average worked out to 10.00 and be ok. Average 9.99 and I'm DQ'd. I can live with that since the next paying index is 9.00 and I would need 50# of boost to get there.

So plans are to make it more durable, lighter, and more efficient and go race 10.00 stuff next year. Lots of 6.50 index racing around now if nobody noticed.

Ah, cool, I was gonna ask if ringing it was an option. Prolly won't get you a whole lot more boost without crazy work to the block but should be more reliable. I saw your post about being "done" at 10.00 average and that makes sense. Sure seems like getting down to 9.00 would be a ton of work and expense and the difference in payouts if any aren't worth it unless you're out there bracket brawling every weekend.

    Bob,

Do you measure the back pressure in the exhaust manifold?

o-rings will be possible around here once I get the fixture plate, it’s $500 but I’m tired of random fire ring pushes.

i have, it’s 1.25x manifold pressure at the turbine inlet. The problem is I can’t measure it at the ports and I feel like me header is the current choke point. The newer design turbines are wonderful compared to where I started at greater that 2x pressure.

as the teardown continues, the ugliness is getting worse. Pulled everything from old block and found #3 had the rings killed too. Car went 10.teens at Norwalk before this, then last pass went 10.50 pushing oil. At least we know why now ...

still not bad, 10.50 on 3 1/2 cylinders
