    I think that is a 1 of 1 limited edition hi-po Ranger.

Started working on the keeper last night. Door hinges need repaired/replaced on the driver side. New lowers came with the truck. Top will get a new pin.

Not sure why pics are posting sideways.

    Behold.......

It's actually really clean under the hood. Lots of new parts were on it.....MSD coil, MSD wires, cap/rotor, EGR, IAC, rebuilt PS pump, reman alternator, new gas tank, tank straps, radiator. Also looks like the valve cover, timing cover and WP had been pulled/replaced at one time. Optima red top came with it. Exhaust manifold has new bolts in it.

    20191111_185737.jpg

We should name this truck Harley. It burns gas, shakes and makes noise.....but withOUT the harmful side affect of horsepower!

Set the timing last night at 10 BTDC. Will run smooth then start missing and idle gets faster. Need to sort that out but for now we are hitting the most urgent needs...the driver door not closing properly, battery ground wires need attention and other easy to do stuff.

Thanks. It's just going to be a basic, as they came from the factory driver. The frame is freaking awesome...like new. The shifter handle is pretty sloppy, that will get a rebuilt kit. Door panels are shot but I have a matched pair of grey from a newer 89-92 truck.

I'm letting Colt do as much of the cosmetic and minor mechanical work as possible with just giving a little guidance. We've tinkered on it twice and when we close up for the night he's told me the "to do" list for the next night.

Thankfully it doesn't need any major mechanical repairs. The only thing that's bad is the passenger side floor pan. The driver side was replaced. The pass side is less than $50...or I can cut one from the parts truck...if it's any good. Probably just order one.

He's laid claim to it. As long as he keeps interested and asks to work on it then that will likely be the case. And...it will keep him away from the 387W truck.

Love this Father & Son project!

    Truck is cool too!

Mild 5.0 swap it and you can tow the 387 to the track with it...

Quick 2.3L question....distributor vs distributorless motors.

The motor in the blue ranger smokes. It is a distributor style motor. The other two trucks are distributorless. Now, I know virtually nothing about the 2.3's. Are they interchangable? I didn't know if the distrubtorless motors were the same but maybe had a block off plate for the dizzy...or....?? Obviously the heads are different....4 plugs vs 8 plugs.

Same ish, but no... depends on which way you are going and more specific on the years when it comes to DIS.

You are right that the DIS block has a plug "dummy shaft" to drive the oil pump.

The difference is in the front, the DIS block has mounting for the crank trigger while the distributor engine does not.

For what I think you are asking, You can use the DIS block, remove the crank trigger, remove the dummy plug and install your distributor. Bolt your NA top end on that block and go

option - The dual plug will have a roller cam with cast roller followers. It is a much better cam than the slider in the distributor engine and swaps right in. (as long as they are cast followers, NOT stamped)

warning - the auxillary shaft interface is a weak point. mixing and matching parts there is bad juju

My wifes convertible is the other way, actually an early SVO engine that I modified for the crank trigger, installed the dummy shaft, and bolted the dual plug head on to.

    Update.

Cleaner grill badge. Old one was bothering Colt.

    20191117_113705.jpg

Vac leak going to the MAP.

    20191118_180727.jpg

Vac leak to the EGR they tried to fix with tape.

    20191124_115132.jpg

    Horsepower added....

    20191125_193130.jpg

    Door panels updated.

    20191118_192758.jpg

Seems to be running pretty good now. Well, smooth. It's still gutless. Thinking a rear swap to pick up the RPM's. Shifter rebuild kit will be here today...it's pretty sloppy.

Colt has also done a bunch of little stuff. All of the lenses had overspray on them from a repaint. I had clean marker lights from other parts trucks of the past. So he went around and swapped them in. I've told him to get the seat out so I can start working on the pass side floor pan replacement. He's dragging his feet since he knows it won't be driveable for a week or so. It's not licensed but that doesnt keep him from bombing around the yard in it and the occassional drive in Mexico.

Ok...well...took a step back. Found ANOTHER vac leak. Carb cleaner around the middle intake gasket seemed to be the spot. Pulled it apart and the gasket looked good. I'll throw a new one in and see what happens.
