    Capri Annual upgrade thread

Not much action around here anymore, but here we go .. time for my annual Capri winter upgrade thread ...

ive been dancing around this the last few years doing safety upgrades. Car can run in the 9’s, but I mostly race it at 10.00. This year NMRA pushed me into it. We was always allowed to run whatever as long as the average was above out safety ... so I could run a couple of 9.9x plys a 10.0x and as long as average was 10.00 or slower we was ok... well, this year they called any single pass quicker than your safety a mulligan, but it was 1 per weekend ... in Kentucky, I ran a 9.999 in true street to win the 10.00 average, but that used my mulligan ... for the stick shootout if I went under 10.00 I would of been DQ’d so I was screwed.

that more or less forced my hand to doing an 8.50 legal cage (all to run 10.00)

i pulled my maximum Motorsports 6 point, dash, did some horse trading, and picked up a Wild Rides kit ....

Looks good. Off the shelf window net or something custom fit? Now I liked using VHT Rollbar/Chassis paint in satin black. It covers real nice with a nice finish and blends nice if you need to touch something up. Sadly it does scratch easy if you look at it funny. Not as durable as I thought it would be.

Wish my Comp kit had fit that well from the start. Roof bars were a joke. Course learned a bit bending my own which was fun to do.

How does that window net work/attach with swing out bar? One thing I still need to order.

Ewwwww wiring.....spits on ground......throws salt over shoulder......spins in circle muttering

Window net continues to be a work in process, got top parts in, not happy with fit to this point ... just racequip stuff. It’s only zip tied to the door bar so I need to play with a rod down there.

this needed a bit of fiddling. Putting the floor plates in I think changed the heights they planned on or something. Once we trimmed the height, their coping fell into place rather nicely. The D Bars was a joke, but had enough material to work with.

I just need to remove some stuff that isn’t needed, redo some stuff that wasn’t done right to start, etc as far as wiring. Car still starts and runs right now, so I just need to not screw that up, lol.

Finished up the window net today anyway. I don’t think I’ll ever be 100% happy with it, but decent enough until I live with it a while and see if anything needs changed

In my continued effort to avoid painting (lol) I also got all the trim panels from the doors back reinstalled .... these always seemed to fit pretty lousy, and none of the screws was the right ones ... put it together with pop rivets and small washers where the screws was recessed. Really happy with that being done

Rough, rough estimate is that the new cage added 25# over what I had in there. Likely closer to 30# once installed.

not that it matters much, but I’ve been going through everything I can to try to find that weight back. Silly things like this car had a remote fuel filler release, several sets of old speaker wires, a couple of seat brackets, etc, etc ... been trying to track what I find as a I go along, anything I remove gets chucked in a bucket, once the bucket is full I weigh it. Keeping a running total on my white board, so far found 14# that was just taking up space. Into the dash harness now, not going to find it all for free, but getting there.

my insanity watching all this stuff.

You have no idea how quickly I can distract myself working on my car. I am the dog that sees SQUIRREL! and off that way I go.

    work in progress ...

not as clean as I would like, but I’m calling it done ... ended up with a grand total of 19# of wire, connectors, misc brackets, etc.

started on the dash itself now. Not a lot to take out of there, the hull and its framework are 11.5#.
