PEOPLE HAVE MORE FUN THAN ANYONE
Towed my junk down to Mason Dixon to get NHRA Chassis cert done.
got my sticker, good to 8.50’s as far as they are concerned (I couldn’t do that off a cliff with a tail wind)
Had to wait until I got my chassis cert done to tear into the engine for some maintenance and upgrades.
this is huge for me. I went all of last season without pulling the head for a gasket. Pulled it off now and all is good. The combo of copper gasket, wire o ring in the deck, and receiver groove in the head sure seems to have worked. With the normal style gaskets I was getting 20-25 passes before the fire ring deformed and lost sealing.
Changed sources on my copper headgasket. As they are known to do, I struggle a little with sealing up water leaks on the one I was using. Decided to try a gasket made by Flatout. Their stuff is a softer copper, and comes with a “rubber” coating applied. It went together well enough, time will tell if it’s better.
now on to the turbo upgrades ....
Turbine swapped and assembled... it even runs and doesn’t leak, lol ...
on to some suspension tweaks
I have hated this team Z k member since I’ve had it... finally got the bump steer dialed in after like 10 years, lol
Pretty much finished my “to do” list on th car over the weekend. Trailer maintenance next weekend, then be ready to attempt my NHRA license passes
looks the part and runs the part.....ready for some 9.50 hits this year Bob?

I know I say this a lot.... but not a lot of motivation to run much quicker with this platform. I kept saying I never intended to do a full cage in this car, but NMRA and NMCA really forced me now. I can run on the 10.00 average, but to get that tight enough to be in the running really need a 9.9x pass to keep it tight. They have always said as long as your posted average was above your tech you are ok ...last year they changed to allow one “mulligan” below your safety. This year in Florida they DQ’d anyone that went quicker.
my issue is the races where we have a true street and a stick shootout. The format is you qualify based on your average, but there is no breakout. So in Kentucky I won the 10.00 average, but couldn’t pick up in the stick shootout because I ran a 9.999 (literally) in the true street.
not saying I won’t try some pases for glory, but I’m really happy actually racing on 10.00, 10.50, or 6.50 index stuff. I like the heads up pro tree stuff and index racing is a real challenge.
I guess to mostly close this out ....
went to Mason Dixon today to attempt to get my licensing passes in. I have an IHRA license, so needed to make 3 sub 10 second hits. Unloaded the car and put I. A tune up that I thought would go 9.90 based on past data. I was obviously in the dark how much the new turbine would help ....

Nice run Bob! Your hard work is really paying off!
Thanks guys, for coming out of the garage it surprised even me. If you watch the video the clutch pulled the car forward as it came up in RPM, it was basically deep staged before the car ever moved under power so it will ET better.
I fixed that issue today, the clutch switch that holds the line lock in was messed up after having everything apart.
I turned the boost down for the next 2 passes, blew the tires off the 2nd and went 9.74, turned down again and went 9.70
last pass it got into the high limiter on the big end. Learned a lot, it needs a rear gear change to run that quick, and the thing would really wake up with a cam change
I like that this thread is heading straight towards 9.50's. :)
