Next upgrade … the SVO head..
Back when Ford Motorsport was Motorsport SVO you could but this stuff from the catalog the Block, Head, and intake all have Ford Ovals and part numbers yet none of these was ever in a production car.
the big deal with this head is the much larger intake ports and they are substantially raised ports
Any chance you'll make it to the track this year ?

Zero chance. At this point, I switched gears to this upgrade.
A little progress ....
Intake converted from 2 bbl carb to EFI use, Throttle body and inkectors in their places :D
Looking good. Looking forward to seeing you at the track.

Right now, it feels like forever away. Everything is just moving along slower than I ever hoped. Probably get stuff back from the machine shop about when it's colder than heck and all motivation has left me. Out of things to do until the head is back or the shortblock is done.
i like all the light alum parts

Dont get too excited about weight:
Iron head, just valves and springs (no cam, rockers or adjuster hardware) is 57.8#
Aluminum Head in the same condition is 32.6#
25+#'s seems like a nice savings but will be offset by much heavier block and rotating assembly parts. I suspect this will be closer to a wash than anything else.
The good news is it will definitely lower the center of gravity for instant center calculations. Typically, they use the camshaft height on a V8. On mines it's much higher, and I could never actually get to a reliable number to use.
Hold Toledo, this instant center calculation talk is like rocket surgeon stuff shooting right over my head. But I want to learn. Overall I would have to say your progress on this project is interesting & entertaining. I can’t wait to see & hear the results. If you’ve ever seen Bob make a run you’ll understand, it’s basically an awesome yet humbling experience.

Instant center calculation
instant center is a point in space (real or extrapolated) about which the suspension links pivot.
The line drawn from the wheel center to the instant center is the equivalent swing arm & its length & angle are critical to suspension design. The instant center dictates how the energy from the axle is transferred to the chassis.
Doesn’t seem to have anything to do with center of gravity. At least to me, but I’m not too swift, so to speak.

yes i agree a lower cg is always better

Again, I’m not too swift. But It seems to me in launching a car, as you lower CG you decrease weight transfer. Maybe my logic is faulty & that’s why I’m so slow. Road racing on the other hand, it’s as low as you can go. I don’t have a wheelie problem but Bob routinely launches wheels up

when you plot rear suspension and try to get to an instant center, the center of gravity is part of plotting that.
my problem is, if I enter everything as well as I can, my car doesn’t react quite the same as it should predict. In reality, I look at this as a reference, the car works or it doesn’t, and lots of ways to skin the cat. But, when a calculator says is have something like 115% anti squat, my car appears to leave flat when the calculator says it should be lifting as an example.
here are 2 screen shots from an IC calculator. 1st one is the common fox set up, with center of gravity at 18”… 2nd one the only thing changed is moving center of gravity to 22” … car goes from lifting in first plot to squatting in 2nd one with no other charges but raising the Center of gravity … this is what I see with my Capri, make adjustments to be like 120% anti squat and the car reacts like it’s got 105% based on video. It’s all on paper, but use that to try to set up the car so it will hook.
Bob, thanks for explaining that for me. Especially not trying to over simplify, but how it applies to your car. Once again I want to say how much I’m enjoying your posts on the progress of your Capri.

I've got a punch list of small stuff to sort through and start driving it a bit to sort out the fuel.
WOW. That sure sounds good. Knowing you, I'm sure it will be a terror.

im not sure we will see it as a terror for a while.
I?m still a way from getting it on track. A lot changed, and I?m still working out details.
I?ve made up my mind though, with limited testing this year, I?m going to focus on getting it dialed in on 10.10 to get it ready for the NMRA Street Bandit class. It feels like a class I can compete in, .400 pro tree, street car stuff, all on a 10.10 index. I think I could compete in that class ? to be determine, but my target for now.
