I've been checking SCS almost daily but with work and my personal life, it's been hard to stay on the internet for longer than 15 minutes. Hence why I almost never post recently.
I just want to sound off on something. Last night driving my dad's 67' vette (he'd rather smoke a stogie in shotgun than drive it anymore), we got the usual event of random people flocking to the car either while driving or parked somewhere. What I'm about to say happens almost always when I'm in the vette and even occasionally even happens when I'm driving my Mustang. And 99.9% of the time, it is not someone in another mustang or another corvette but rather their Toyota Camry.
There is nothing worse than when people come up to you and just start talking like assholes, thinking their being friendly. People who immediately go to boasting about cars they own or used to own, or saw. Snickering or making reference about how the vette is a small block when a 427 big block is nicer. I can't say how many times I get the "Six or Eight?" question followed by talk about eight cylinder this or eight cylinder that. People who blatantly try and elevate themselves over you because their car is rarer, more expensive, or faster especially come accross as dicks. I could go on and on, but you guys probably get the point.
When I see a nice car now, I usually do one of three things: A simple "sounds good", "lookin great", or thumbs up. These are the things that bring a smile and some satisfaction when I recieve them in the vette or stang. If I'm fortunate enough to strike up conversation with the person, I tend to listen more than talk.
Too many people don't understand any etiquette towards other car enthusiasts.
