Some new info from Bo Port..

"Orko donated a volvo B234 head to the shop for me to tinker with, and after seeing promising gains recently with a current customers head (which I performed a basic stage 1 port job on) I was curious to see what these heads could do with a little more work. This head has the stock valve job on it and stock valves which have been mildly modified (back cut). I initially gave the port a conventional full port and saw decent gains. After I took some velocity measurements though I discovered the velocity near the port entrance was much higher than desirable at 450ft/sec. I then added some cross sectional area at the entrance and some in the rest of the port. This dropped velocity down to a still "high" but reasonable 350ft/sec in addition to bringing flow up further with no loss in the low and mid lift regions. By looking at the below flow chart, you can tell this port could really benefit from an oversized valve, harnessing some of the available flow at higher lifts at lower lifts through increased curtain area. I feel this port could easily hit 300cfm with realistic valve lifts. Until someone wants to donate some funds to really go "all out" on one of these though, this will have to do for a Boport stage 3 volvo port job:

    Lift---Stock---Stage 3 Volvo--ARCA
    .050"---42.1-------42.0-------33.7
    .100"---85.1-------87.0-------61.3
    .150"--123.9------132.3-------91.6
    .200"--164.1------175.8-------122.0
    .250"--198.5------210.1-------149.8
    .300"--219.2------229.6-------175.8
    .350"--226.4------248.8-------198.5
    .400"--229.6------259.8-------218.6
    .450"--231.6------267.9-------236.1
    .500"--234.1------276.0-------252.3
    .550"--235.4------282.1-------265.9
    .600"--235.4------284.5-------275.0

    Poor ARCA..... "
