I used one a few days ago to change a guys Gear Ratio, and install the "performance tune." It won't change anything noticably unless you want to switch to race fuel and bump timing a bunch. However you can change parameters for electric fans, and line pressure for firm shifts. I thought that was pretty nice to have.

best handheld tuner to buy for 99-04 imo is the sct2, heard not much gains etc with the diablo an predator, the sct2 i have heard is the best all round an you get the most gains out of it got mine with a kit with 4.10s an gear oil

i 'll agree that sct is a better tool but i think you would be fine with a predator

i have used both, it all depends what your future plans are with your car

are you buying new or used?

Both the Predator and the Xcal2 will do the same thinig. One of the big advantages that the Xcal2 has over the Predator is that it seems that more people tune with the SCT software than the Diablo so if you ever plan on looking into a custom tune, you will find it easier to find someone to do your tune.

To add to what has been said..

The Datalogging capability on the XCal2 is far superior as well.

I agree. I have a Predator and looked around. Everyone told me the same. But when we went to Big Shot Dyno last year, I was the last one there. I forgot the guys name there, but he was great. He did some custom tweaking for me with the Pred. So I know they can do it out there.

I had a predator originally for my Mach and it did a decent job with mine. The peak numbers were almost the same as with a custom tune, the mid range was picked up better with tuning however. I would agree thought that the sct is more popular.

I had one on my gt for a while. I didn't notice anything on the performance tune, but i advanced the timing all the way and ran 93 octane and the car def pulled harder.
