Exclamation Speed Traps Rt 30 & Rt 22

Subject: Speed traps on Rt 30 and 22

North Huntingdon, Monroeville, Murrysville, Wilkins TWP
Local Police Using State-Of-The-Art Equipment To Nab
    Speeders

It's time to lighten up your lead foot if you're driving
along Routes 30 and 22 or anywhere in North Huntingdon,
Murrysville, Monroeville, and Wilkins Twp .

All four communities are sharing a device designed to trap
    speeders.

The device looks like a metal field goal post on each side
of the road, only a lot less visible.

When a car passes through the posts, police know precisely
how fast it's going within 1 mph.

"These receivers receive a beam which is basically an
infrared beam much like garage doors that keep your child
safe," said Sgt. Duane Kucera of the North Huntingdon
Police Department. "The beam shoots across and it goes back
up, it shoots a beam across."

About 25 of the traps, called electronic non-radar devices,
were given to local departments like North Huntingdon to be
shared and placed in problem areas.

"All the data that has come in from local police
departments have supplied crash information," said Robert
Zwyer of Buckle Up Pennsylvania. "We look at where we need
to go, our targeted roadways. The Pennsylvania Department
of Transportation has set a standard of so many crashes,
speed-related, then we have a speeding problem."

On Monday, police put their ENRADD near the Irwin Sheetz on
Route 30 at the intersection of Thompson Road where there
    have been numerous accidents.

Thanks to an officer who sits near the ENRADD and reads
speeds, a second officer can be up to a half-mile away from
the device and still catch someone speeding.

North Huntingdon police nabbed six speeders in 30 minutes
    on Monday using the device.

The state will fund another 25 of the devices next year.

It's time to lighten up your lead foot if you're driving
along Routes 30 and 22 or anywhere in North Huntingdon,
    Murrysville, Monroeville, and Wilkins Twp

This is what it will look like:

where do you get this news, fyi speed cameras are falable- a lightly tinted cover throws the photo off and distorts the image(thats why they are not allowed, even though you can buy them at every walmart in the country). also spray your plate with a mixture of clear and ppg type pearl and you get the same results as the cover just no tickets for it being there ,the officer would have to prove you put something on it.as far as the goal posts go spike your brakes and wound'nt it screw it up as it does vascar?

Just goes to show you that they could care less about anything but the money, if they were concerned for safety they would never knock it down to 5 over. That definately sucks man.

You took the words out of my mouth John. They have custom painted cop cars, suv's, etc. This tiny little boro has like 10 full and part time cops and this is exactly how they fund that shit.

OSD--anything over 5 mph gives you points. Had he got me for the full 43 mph over I woulda had 4 points and the fine woulda been like $160.

Alicia--I swear I thought the same thing. I think this woulda went down very differently had I been in the Cobra.

I saw one of those things last week on 22 in Murrysville on the side of the road. Lucky I wasn't speeding I guess. I saw it and thought it looked funny but I didn't know what it was.

Does anyone know if these have the same 10mph fudge factor that vascar does in speed zones that are under 55MPH?

Canary, the article says they know how fast you are going within 1mph...

And, If i ever see one of those things at night, im going to destroy it. Its all about the money. I think its bullshit that they can do that, isnt that like entrapment somehow?

And yeah, typical PA state law is...

Every 5mph = 1 pt added to your license, and after like 5 or 6, you lose it on the spot...

But now me and the mom gotta watch out for those dumb looking things now, just fricken great. If anyone spots one, post up where it is!
