Classic plates on SVO's

As most of you know I bought a low mileage SVO. I'm trying to get a Pa Classic plate for it. I took the pictures that the DMV requires and the rest of the paperwork needed. I received everything back today and they want me to: (exact words)
- remove the rear spoilers
- if orig. provide manufact document. & paint to match
- if not orig-remove
My question is what kind of "manufact document" can I use to prove that the spoilers are factory ? I know if I send them something I will never get it back. I'm not sure if I can scan a brochure picture and use it or if I give them the SVOCA address they would take the time to find out.

I can't be the first one trying to get a Classic plate on an SVO in Pa.
Any suggestions please !

Just paint it in photoshop and print pictures and tell them to get a clue as to what the car looks like before they try to tell you it doesn't belong.

I was looking into collectors plates for my mustang and buick, not sure how the classic plates work but good luck.

I would watch on the collectors plate, that will make your vehicle an R-title. I know a few that did do that, and some regret it.

We could take pictures of my spoilers with the "paint to match" option :D Of course they would tell us the tail lights were wrong ;)

I've always said that the black cars should have been painted to match, not grey, now the STATE of PA has confirmed it looks wrong too. You paying attention here Troy?

Maybe get someone from Ford to call them directly, lol, oh I forgot, even Ford didnt understand these cars.

Maybe pull the spoilers off, and promote it as the third option? 1 - both spoilers, 2- bi-wing delete, 3- spoiler delete all together. Maybe your VIN show this as actually one of the two built with no spoiler and you didnt know it ;)

I cant wait until they get to the pinstripes on the tail lights, un authorized headlight "covers", poorly installed (offset) hood scoop, those mudflaps in front of the rear tires, and I havent even got to the 5 lug disk brake conversion, Porsche wheels, and custom interior. Wait until they want to see pictures of the V8 engine :D

This is why I just pay for regular plates every year ;)

Like Steve said, I've heard real bad things there. You basically get an R title back. Probably okay on your 2.3 mustang, but I wouldnt dink your Buick

In this case I would just get creative and come up with a personlized plate, scrap the R-title route, why would you want the car recognized as something it isn't. The value will drop like a rock. Besides, the actual year of the car will never change, and anyone that knows anything about these cars will know it's a classic. I believe if you get an R-title for the car because of the plate, it is a step backwards. You got one in good shape, with low miles, I'd avoid anything that would take away from that.

Classic and Antique are fine (no title issues)

Its the "Collectable" plate that causes issues. It was really intended for pro-street type cars that were already substantially modified from stock, and didnt meet the requirements for true classic or antique. In other words, the car was probably already and R title, or modified in such a way that it should have one ;)

Yes, COLLECTOR plates are R-title only, and are, as far as I know phased out, nearly impossible if not impossible to get now.

Antique and Classic plates are for any car that is a certain number of years old, and must be completely stock.

All you would need is a sales brochure from Ford, or tell them to research it.

All in all, send back a letter stating that is it stock, and why it has those certain objects on the car.

I think I got threw to them. I found a phone number on the paper work they sent back to me. I called from work today and asked what I needed to do. He told me about going to a dealer and get a print-out of what the car has/don't have. I'm thinking to myself the local dealer here has no clue of what an SVO is/has even if I gave them the vin #(too old). I asked him what he uses to make sure the car is factory correct. He uses books, manuals, people that have something to do with the Hershey antique shows, and the internet. More talk back and fourth, he told me the part that threw him off was the flat finish on the spoiler. I told him that is was original. He said it wasn't like his neighbor's 86' GT. Well duh!!! It's not a GT. I asked then if he has acces to the internet in front of him. I told him about the SVOCA web-site, he found on his own the SVO HISTORY link to the left. It took a little of coercing, but he said print off that page, write him a letter stating that I spoke with him on the phone, and list the SVOCA site in it also. So we'll see in a couple weeks after sending the paper work back in.

Thanks for the info Bob. Don't want to R-title it. How old does it have to be for antique/collector plates?

Classic is 15 years and antique is 25 years. Not sure on the requirements for Collector.

Not sure what type of classic plates are available. I have the white with purple letters on my 86 GT. The new classic plates and antique plates look like the regular PA tags. Leave it to PA to SCREW IT UP

Maybe you can find someone who already had a classic plate and upgraded to an antique plate. You can possibly transfer their old classic plate to your SVO. Does anyone know if you can trasfer a previously issued classic plate to a DIFFERENT CAR then was originally designated for?

If so, I would rather have the white/purple letters classic plate
