Thread: This is why standard ARPs suck:

This is why standard ARPs suck:

It's pretty well known throughout the DSM community that ARPs will stretch just as much as stock head bolts but can be torqued slightly higher. Their better metal studs are not offered in a 12mm (YET) so the other option is to go with an A1 Technology "tool steel" stud. unfortunatly they're on back order at the moment so I have to baby the car until then.

Anyway, flowing 75lb/min making just over 600whp on c16 without the spray I lifted the head pretty good off the block. O-ringing does not help in this situtation as combustion gasses will just slip around the oring, it did however keep water from going back into the cyl.

Keep in mind these are just the standard ARPs 8740 chrome moly steel, not the L19's or the custom age 625's that are used in the racing industry, as of this point not offered in a size I can use.

Every cyl had carbon traces around the oring here are the 2 that were the worst:

hey man I was on AMS website and was checkin in on their headstuds that i have been hearin about for the evo. I too use the arp studs but am considering swapping them out for these : http://www.amsperformance.com/store/...oducts_id=1090

Now I dont know if these could be used on your 4g63 or not , I did look under the DSM stuff and didnt see an equal offering for them. Maybe something to look into.

If the evo 7bolts follow the same pattern as our 7nolts they are 11mm studs not 12. I have a set of a1s on order they're the answer for this problem.

I checked those out they are both L19 and h11 studs. The ones I ordered are h11s...good stuff!

Its neat those guys are doing well, Martin and Fritz were into the 2.3 Fords for a while, neat to them segway into the DSM type stuff.

I do however like the line on their "about" where they say there was a decline in popularity of the 2.3's as their reason for getting out, reality was there isnt much market for a $400.00 roller camshaft ground on a cast blank that didnt add much power ;)

Sorry for the Hijack, we have similar issues with the 2.3's and ARP studs, I get around it by running the Ford angle torque bolts, they seem to have more clamp load and I've never lost a gasket with them, even after melting pistons the gasket was fine ;) Thank god for iron heads :D
