Something is making a hissing whining noise under the hood and sorta sounds like a supercharger.
Sounds like it is coming from the alternator. What is directly below the alternator on the same pulley system? Could it be that?

Everything appears to be ok as far as guages and such, it is just making a hissing whining noise.
All this started in Myrtle Beach a day after I had the engine bay detailed. They did a really fantastic job, but I am wonderding if the high pressure hose knocked some junk loose inside the alt.

Stopped at Advance Auto and had them do a alternator test.
The guy said the volts were fine at 14, but didnt like the amps it was putting out. That was only 14 as well.
He suggested taking the serpentine belt of and manually rotating the alternator and smog pump to see which is making the noise, as he thinks the bearings are shot.

i was just going to say, the bearings inside the alternator are shot....
this happened to the alt on my LT1 once and it doesnt affect its functionality too much... it still charges the battery etc.... but it sounds like a really awful souding F1R procharger under the hood....
either a new one or have urs rebuilt... i think it was about 30 or 40 to have mine compltely rebuilt

My neighbor had some different size belts so I took off my stock belt and was able to run a belt around the alt, a/c, water pump and crank, which eliminated the smog pump and power steering pump.
It still makes a noise, so I am thinking that it is the alternartor.
