    Rim width for tire

so shortly im gonna be buyin a set of rims for my 99. i read a thread on here a while ago that got me thinking. they are bullits deep dish in the back and i have two options. 17x9 front and back or 17x9 front 17x10.5 rear. i already have the tires and for the back they are 275's. would they look better on the 9" or 10.5? im leanin towards the 10.5 but don't know if it would look better. just lookin for some opinions..thanks

A 275 will look better on a 9" rim, but the new set of 315 you can buy once you wear those out will need the 10.5" rim.

    +1 What Ed said.

Personally, I like the 275/40/17 on 17x9" front, 315/35/17 on 17x10.5" rear combos best.

o.k..i can FINALLY put my education to work on here... if you are going to stick to the 275's, you need to run the 9's...the 10.5's will spread the bead past it optimimum point(causing a wheel 'rollover' effect when cornering) and will prematurely wear out the outside edges of the tread. the recommended size wheel for (i'm assuming,...is a 275/40R17..285's recommend a 10" wheel and if you're gonna go BIG, the 315/35 will work fine on the 10.5") is a 9"-11" with a 10.9" footprint on a 9.5" wheel being optimum. the tire will be 'square to the wheel and give you the best ride and performance. the best news about the 9" wheels is..that you can run the 275's all the way around and rotate ALL of the tires.

Thanks for chiming in here Tim.

I am a big Michelin fan and always try to sell them to my customers at work.

On my Cobra I run Pilot Sport 2 Michelins 275/35/18 fronts and 315/30/18 rears. They are the best tires that I have owned by far!

    Take care bud,

the PS2's are incredible. i recently had the experience of being part of Reeves Import Motorcars Enthusiasts Appreciation Day(tampa, fl @ tampa bay downs. http://www.reevesimportmotorcars.com they brought 9 new 2007 cars (911 Carrera, Boxster, Caymen S, Cayennne Turbo, as well as a GT2, Carrera GT, a Maserati Gransport and an Audi RS4. i have never seen someone hand over keys to a $110K car to let them thrash it! All of these cars were shod with Michelins(we flipped the bill to put new tires on after the day{ it was a promotional write off, thank god}) i got to drive most...but..i had to ride shotgun in the Carrera GT(hell. i wouldn't trust ME in a 1/2 mill dollar car either!) the car was shod with the Pilot Sport Cups(DOT race tires). the shear accelleration and handling on rails was ridiculous.
glad to hear that you prefer the Michelins. i ran the Pilot Sports on my G35. Michelin also owns BF Goodrich and Uniroyal...the BFG UHP's are a good option if the Michelin's come up a lil pricey....i'm running G-Force's on on Mach.

Wow! Sounds like my kind of fun. Those caliber of cars are what most people only DREAM of flogging!

I deal with a guy named Jim at Tire Rack (Wholesale) who gets to do some testing of the new tires from time to time and he says it is a blast. He is the main reason I went with the PS2 tires. He is a gear head also and we always chat about hot rods and sports cars when I call.

Do you still have the G35? I work as a Parts Manager for Nissan but personally I like the G35 over the 350Z. If I get the oppertunity to pick one up pre-owned at work I am going to do so.

also take into concern. one manufactors size isnt the same as anothers so a 315/35/17 nitto will fit on a 9" rim and suggested thta they go on a 9" but a 315/35/17 MT Dr wont fit on a 9" nicely and is suggested to go 11"

so take into account.. i run a 305 on a 8.5" rim made by nitto and it fits well ithout buldging
