Thread: Which Dyno?

    Which Dyno?

    Hey guys,

I haven't been around here in a long time (since I sold my GT vert 2 years ago) but I need some help (unrelated to mustangs - I know, don't beat me up too bad :D ). My dad has a pro-touring chevelle that just got finished up a few months ago (complete frame off resto-mod) and we finally have some miles on it and got it power tuned. We actually had it power tuned at ASAP yesterday (yeah, I know about the stories about them - but Ed is actually really good with carb'ed motors, and we've known him for years). Anyway, the tune is in and the car is running great, but we want some dynojet numbers. Who are you guys recommending these days? I did a search and saw that Hybrid is highly recommended, but so is bigshot. What about stropes? I just want to make sure we take it to the most highly qualified, TRUSTWORTHY individual as of today, right now, since we know nothing about these shops. Again, we're not tuning it (unless something is seriously wrong with Ed's tune), just want to see the numbers. The car has A LOT of $$$ in it, and we want that money to stay in it, haha.

Thanks a lot for any help you can give me!

    Mike

Stropes is open again at a new shop. His dyno isnt up and running yet, I stopped there the other day actully to check it out and see the new place. He said by then end of this week he should be up and running.

They are off the Jefferson Ave. exit in Washington. If you need directions to it PM me.

Thanks a lot, guys - we'll probably go to Hybrid - we were at a small show up in butler last night and talked to a few guys who recommended them as well. Like I said though, I've heard good things about big shot in the past, just nothing as of late. They were who I was inclined to go to first, but Hybrid is closer for us.

Rob - here are a few pics. Finished in May after almost 3 years. It's got all kinds of parts on it, TKO600, full global west suspension, 3 inch stainless ceramic coated exhaust with x pipe, stainless gas tank, AFR heads, solid roller from ed curtis...the list goes on. Made 503 rwhp on asap's dyno in 3rd gear (he didn't want to run 4th since the motor only has 250 miles on it - I'm told that 3rd gear reduces your hp/tq numbers by 4 to 5 % on a mustang dyno...we'll see) - but it wheel hopped in 3rd, so he had to roll into the throttle, which knocked the numbers down even more. I'm guessing we'll see 550 or so rwhp on a dynojet. ALL big block, no power adders. It's a 454 .030 over with 10.5:1 compression. How are things with you? Sounds like your car is running well based on your sig - congrats!!

Thanks man!!! You better believe we're going to run it - once or twice anyway to see what it will do. Most likely in the spring, after we get some more miles on it. Not expecting too much on street tires though - but I'm curious to see what mph it will put up.

Thanks!! I wish I could say that we did all of the work, but we didn't. We stripped the thing, and picked all the parts. A guy up in Ashtabula OH did the rest. Now I'm spending every last minute I have fixing all of the things he screwed up (he did a great job with body work/paint, but lots of the fine details were missed in setting all of the parts up). Gotta work all the bugs out I guess. I seriously think it would have taken less time had we done it all ourselves (which was our main reason for having him do it in the first place!).
