    Lunched another belt tonight.

Well this is starting to piss me off. Took it out tonight just to take a quick joy ride. It was real quick. After car warmed up went wot in second and sheared off the front half of the belt again. Checked the belt constantly at prp (last time I drove it) and checked it tonight before I left and it was perfect. Took the front 4 ribs off just like last time. I 'll tell you N/A was a whole lot less of a pain in the ass. Going to shim out the idler next to the crank pulley. The belt rides close to the front edge of the idler, so maybe it's walking it out of the grove of the crank pulley??? Am going to get an inch longer belt too as this 780 is really tight. Would welcome some belt slip over shreading 30 dollar belts at this point.

Cam, I know this sounds really stupid, but sometimes it's the easiest stuff. Is everything tightened down? Maybe the s/c worked itself a little loose since it was off the car and the snout is moving around a little? And, try a laser pointer on the edges of those pulleys.

Just a few easy thoughts... pardon my s/c stupidity, but the simple shit normally bites my ass.

    Good Luck !!!
What am I looking for with a laser pointer? I am going to check to make sure all is tight once the bitch cools down some tonight. It only takes about six hours with the hood up to cool the engine bay off somewhat .

    belt

You have something out of alignment, or something walking in and out to shred a belt that quick. Take the time to take it apart and check all the pulleys', It should be obvious. Good luck.

Checked every pulley. All spin freely, don't have any damage or burrs on them , and don't have endplay. I checked to make sure the crank pulley wasn't loosening up, and all bolts are tight. The only thing I found that was different is that on all the aftermarket pulleys the belt pattern shows that it rides toward the inside of the pulley and the ford idler next to the crank looks like it used to ride towards the inside, but now is riding towards the outside. Took the pulley off to get a close look. The bearing is fine and the pulley spins freely. Used a washer behind it to space it out farther so that the belt will ride closer to the inside like all the rest. I'm going to get a little longer belt when i put it back together. I don't know anything else to check. I've spent lots of time now under the hood with the car running and nothing is wobbling or showing any signs of bieng abnormal.

Cam I think I know the fix.

There is a lower on that car right?

I am betting if there is, that the idler pulley at the bottom is in the lower hole. If you put it in the upper hole the belt will walk when you wick the throttle open quickly leading to the belt tearing.

Give me a call at 412-262-9020 x3022 before noon today if you can and I will explain this further. If you can't call by then pm me your number and I will call you later.

I did Mark. I don't have an adjustable lower idler. It looks like the tensioner is pulling it out towards the front of the motor and walking the belt off. I finally caught it in the middle of destroying the belt to see what it was doing. Never made it to the flds, ended up finding the belt pulled one rib off when I got to my uncles in greensburg and just left it there and took his Magnum.

OK two thousand four hundred belts later I think it's solved. The crank pulley was about 1/8 inch back towards the motor compared to the rest of the pulleys and the belt was walking forward one rib . Fabbed some spacers behind the lower and put it all back together with another new belt. Took it out tonight and ripped around on it. Belt is still aligned in pulleys and unharmed. Not claiming victory yet, but this is the longest a belt has lived so far anyway.
