any aftermarket for it? I havent looked into that option.
Thats the Taurus SHO you're talking about. right?

There's a small aftermarket for it. http://www.shotimes.com/SHOappA.html
I had a 91 SHO with some mild motor work done.....I'm full of useless info regarding SHO's and the Yamaha powerplants. Another option would be a forced fed 3.4 DOHC V8 SHO engine...now THAT would be a first!
if either powerplant can bolt into a fox body im interested in exploring options.
Philly.....an 88mm turbo will support WAY more than 600hp.

at the wheels? Im dubious of that claim.
According to the turbotech article:
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...o_tech103.html
Wa = HP*AF*BSFC/60
or translating the abbreviations:
Airflow for a given HP = HP target *Air fuel ratio * Brake Specific Fuel Consumption / 60
This formula, assuming a BSFC of .55-.60 was fairly accurate for predicting how a certain turbo would perform on SRT4's.
To hit a target HP with a target air fuel ratio, there is a minimum amount of air required. Based on garrett's compressor maps, I cant see an 88mm turbo flowing more than 600 at the wheels (about 700 at the crank).
Hell, even a Hellion single 76mm kit for the 03/04 Cobra's will put down over 800 at the wheels on a untouched engine.

ah ok
thats a turbonetic Q-trim turbo, not the garrett 76mm. I think thats where the confusion is coming from.
It can flow more air than the 76mm offerings from Garrett, but at the cost of moving the surge line farther to the right (i.e. forced to have later spool without surge).
I'll see if I can find a compressor and turbine map for it, but I can assure you it flows more than the 45-50 lbs of air that the garrett 3076R does
Ok I found a compressor map for their T-76 turbo. It might be a 76mm turbo, but the trim level they use combined with the size of the compressor blades yields this compressor map:
As you can see, the compressor chokes out at about 90lbs of airflow which is good enough for about 800-950 horsepower, maybe a little more with a good tune.
However, if you look at the map notice where the surge line is and compare it with a 76mm turbo from Garrett, the GT3076R turbo:
notice how you can flow as little as 15 lbs of air and hit a 2.0 Pressure ratio without surge on the 3076R. That just isn't happening with the T76. The drawback is that the choke is at a much lower flowrate which explains why this turbo will only support a little over 500hp.
So I guess the mystery is solved. Through compressor wheel design, you can get a 76mm turbo to flow more, but at the expense of needing to spool it later in the RPM range all things being equal.

The SHO platforms were all FWD, so I don't see it doing you much good.
Did the taurus and the mustang share the same platform for 1990?
nope.... the Taurus and Sable were the only two models on that particular platform.
There are some mid engine projects that involved SHO motors...i.e Ford Festiva and Lotus Espirit *sp
No clue what all is involved but I'm quite certain you'd be better off with the 2.3turbo as it's a straight forward swap. I guess it all depends on how much time and effort you want to invest.
Very informative "how to" article regarding rwd and transverse SHO engine application:

Hmm... id probably want to lean to more of a bolt in application. I think the 2.3 turbo, a 3.8 turbo, or a turbo mod motor project is going to be more suitable for my goals. I know the 2.3 will just bolt right in which is making it very appealing right now. I just have to decide what I'm going to do. The 2.3T is the cheapest but if I put all that time and money into it just to be stuck wtih a low 12 at 114 car id be annoyed.
I'm going to say it once, do something V8 based if you want to keep up with the Silver Streek from Hilbilly Land without robbing a bank to do it!
