ah, the good old days of wondering what your mustang would dyno.... i remember being ecstatic picking my car up at ASAP after a bigger pulley and powerpipe on my mustang and seeing it did 340hp on his mustang dyno... then the delight of pulling out of the parking spot to see 5lbs of oil pressure

good job asap!!! but they swear it had great oil pressure when they parked it

You'll make a pull to redline or the shifting point.

Can someone explain the differences between Mustang Dyno and Dyno-Jet?

I think Dave King took a friends car to speed nation to get dyno'd. His opinion of them was less than stellar. Dynojet seems like the way to go. Less variables for the shop to screw up.

Why not go to Hybrid Dynamics in Youngwood? I've dyno'd (dynojet) there twice and had good experiences both times.

    Edit...and since we're guessing...mustang dyno - 168rwhp dynojet - 179rwhp

Dyno jet is just a roller.

a mustang dyno puts a load on the roller so it gives the friction of really driving on pavement. therefore it gives a better tune like you are acctually driving, rather than just spinning a roller

DynoJet's do have Load Control if they are set up for it. It doesn't really matter though cause the main benefit of putting a car on the dyno it to check the A/F ratio throughout the pull and trying to smooth out the HP & TQ. curves. Peak HP doesn't mean shit!!!

both of them are inertia dynos IIRC. In that they measure the speed at which your car in accelerate the rollers to compute a torque value then combined with the tach signal is used to calculate horsepower.

The difference is mustang dynos factor in all this crap like "wind resistance" and other (IMO useless factors) to "correct" your horsepower to "real world conditions". That is why mustang dynos often give lower numbers than their dynojet counterparts.

Horsepower is a calculated number whose only parameters are torque and RPM, and hence I prefer dynojets over mustang dynos.

IMO... for bragging rights use a dynojet, if you really want to TUNE the car you need a load holding dyno like a mustang dyno. You can tune with a dynojet, but you can tune better with a load holding dyno. Someday I'll be renting a dyno to tune my car on and it will be a load holing dyno so that I can tune every couple of hundred of RPM indiviually in order to get the absolute most area under the curve as I can.

I'm 99% sure that a mustang dyno is not a inertia dyno but rather a eddie current style setup. I don't have the time to look now, but I'm sure that their website tells which kind it is.

    Your 99% feeling is correct.

I actually hadn't thought about eddy current dynos. Using the properties of electromagnetic fields is a brilliant idea actually, and explains to me what you were saying about being able to tune for a specific RPM.

nevertheless, the one place i went to that had a mustang dyno said that they also factor in wind resistance and other parameters not related to torque output to give you a "corrected" horsepower factor.
