    which motor is better for a TT?

    I decided i am going with a TT setup and now i am wondering which motor would a tt kit work the best on a pushrod or a mod motor? I have the 302 now and was thinking about it and thinking i would get more out of amod motor so i started looking around for a 96-01 cobra. What are yins imputs?

    I would say "it depends"

    I've always been a fan of OHC setups, so I would go with a mod motor. regardless of which motor you go with, the parts making up the twin turbo kit are going to be relatively the same with respect to turbo size and intercooler (the most expensive parts of a TT setup). To me, it comes down to the age old question:

    How fast do you want to spend?

    1.) Shortblock: Keep the 302 for increased displacement – however take the factory piston's and bolt a .250 thick steel plate (321ss) on top of all (8) pistons to raise compression to 18:1 (more on this later)

    4.) Turbo Kit – Buy Viper Ed’s single kit

    Now for the kicker to put you ahead of the pack: Remove all spark plugs in the DOHC heads…and get them machined for a 5th valve….This will be an additional exhaust valve to help spool up…you will be at full spool by 2k rpm easy. Use the 302 cam (see item 2) to operate this exhaust valve for…….yes that’s right……….a 5 cam setup. This little trick will be worth an easy 100hp.

    But you’re going to ask…well if I remove the spark plugs to put in a 5th valve/cyl, what about the spark plugs??? Well glad you asked…that’s the beauty of it really…(see item #1)…the increased compression of the steel plate on each piston will negate the need for spark ignition…as now the compression alone will be enough to ignite the mixture.

    Look at the numbers in my sig, that's on a 4.6 with stock heads, cams, intake, etc. The only thing not stock is the built bottom end. And it's just warming up

    yea thats what i have been looking at is the mods compared to the pushrods and it seems that the mod motors get alot more horsepower out of the same setup as a pushrod does.

    exactly...that's what im' saying man...keep the 302 shortblock with 18:1 and use the mod motor heads...with the 5th valve...then you have an OHC and OHV all in one

    man you guys are clueless about performance.

    Dont listen to them, they dont know anything. Here's what you do if you want to go fast.

    Start with the 4.6 mod motor and forget all this OHV/OHC combination crap. Go to the junkyard and get a pair of heads from two 2.3 liter VTEC engines that were in accords. The domestic/vtec combination will be unbeatable and you could probably run in the 8's, maybe high 7's with a good tune.

    Too late...it's already been done.


    I'm telling you Scott....stay ahead of the game....the secret is the 4.6 and 5.4 head combo in the exact orientation I mentioned....it's in development at Ford and MMFF will soon be covering it.

    No, the SOHC vtec head was done, but not the DOHC vtec head. He'll have quad cams which will pwn j00 liek dAt!!1!1!one!1!11

    I dont think anyone attempted it because its just too much power to contain in one engine. The slightest tuning mistake and the resulting explosion could be confused with a nuclear device and may trigger a retaliation repsonse to the enemy country du jour.

    The IN thing now is to do Quad VTEC DOHC heads with Remote Trunk Mount Cylinders, turning that V8 into a 16 Cylinder Monster!
