    84 Capri RS turbo

This is more of a feeler thread as anything right now. I’m really thinking about selling the Capri, and starting another project. I really like this car, but I’m at a point that I either need to really step up with it (roll bar, big turbo, etc) or move on, and I just don’t want to do it with this car.

1984 Capri RS turbo – 1 of just over 1300 built. Just under 123K miles

Car is an original Capri RS Turbo (W VIN). RS includes front valence with fog lights, GT sport cloth interior. This car is a little odd that it is a very low option car, only has power brakes (SVO master cylinder) power steering, tilt wheel, and remote fuel door options. Original crank window / manual lock / non AC car. Sort of strange for a RS turbo to have so few options.

    Engine

2.3L turbo charged engine, Stock short block. Unknown mileage, but was from an automatic 87/88 TC, cylinders still show hone marks, was ultra clean inside. All new seals when installed this summer.
Pocket ported, big valve head, ranger roller cam, new valve springs and seals
Esslinger adjustable cam gear, all converted to round tooth timing belt set-up.
Gutted, ported, knife edged and rotated upper intake (work done by Bob Lee).
65 MM throttle body from Super Coupe.
    Well ported E6 exhaust manifold.
.60 / .63 turbo, upgraded with 360 race bearing, stagger gap turbine seal, and clipped turbine wheel. Turbo by evergreen turbo, set up with GN inlet as well.
    Kirban adjustable FPR
55# Siemens Deka injectors (low impedance)
    K&N cone Filter
Forge dual piston blow off valve.
Large NPR front mount intercooler, custom piping, 2 ½” hot side, 3” cold side. All 4 ply silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps.
Explorer HD aluminum radiator, Proform electric fan (black magic knock-off), aluminum overflow bottle.
Mallory 685 digital ignition system. Has many features, like window switch, rev limits, timing retard, etc.
Lightweight racing battery mounted under the hood.
    130 amp 3G alternator (95 Mustang)
260 lph HP frame rail fuel pump, in tank lift pump.
3” exhaust turbo to bumper, 3” downpipe, 3” converter housing, 3” Dynomax ultra flow muffler, flowmaster 3” tailpipe on drivers side.

    Driveline
Spec 3+ clutch and pressure plate. Resurfaced Ford flywheel.
    T5 transmission from 88 TC – 3:97 1st gear, Royal Purple fluid.
UPR shifter with Hurst T handle and line lock button.
    Summit line lock
    FMS drive shaft loop
8.8 rear, 3:73 gear from 88 TC. Same deal, this came from an automatic TC so it was in exceptional shape, low miles.
CHE upper and lower tubular control arms. Delrin sleeves in poly bushings.
Koni special red front struts (rebound adjustable)
Eibach launch springs all 4 corners, airbag in right rear spring.
Reinforced with LMM full length cross brace subframes, upper torque box reinforcements, and all welded solid.
Car still has SVO front and rear sway bars in place.

    Other
PE computer for engine control. This is the most aggressive of the 2.3T computers. Very rare EEC
TwEECer for engine tuning. Currently tuned pretty well for AF ratio under boost and cruise. 4 tunes possible plus base tune (cant use base with the big injectors)
Innovate SSI-4 4 channel data logging. Set up to log RPM, AFR, boost from GM 3 bar map, and air meter voltage.
AEM wideband with pillar mounted gauge.
Autometer 30”-0-30# boost gauge on pillar.
Autometer shift light with pills (5200-6200 rpm)
SVO speedometer cluster with 140 mph speedometer, only numbered to 85 mph. Also includes stock 85 mph cluster.
    SVO sail panels.
Mustang hatch with SVO bi-wing spoiler.
5 lug wheels and 4 wheel disk brakes from Mustang SVO 11” fronts, 11.62 rears, axles and front control arms are 1.5” wider than fox on each corner.
SVO specific engine K member with engine dampers.
Car comes with SN95 waffle star wheels with 225/50/16 tires and / or 2 weld draglites with 26-10.50-15 ET Streets and 2 weld pro stars 15 x 3 ½ skinnies (negotiable)
    35% tint all windows.
    Aluminum rear bumper.
New carpet, recently steam cleaned interior, etc.

I’m sure I’m missing a lot here, ask for details as needed. I can separate some parts of the package as needed. Can also include lots of spares for some areas as needed.

Bad - There is some rust in the C pillars right now. These were fixed once, but there was some issue with the sealer that caused them to bubble again. These will be fixed this winter regardless, sooner if needed. There are some general nicks, small scratches, etc in some small places. Over-all the car looks good, just don’t pick it apart.

Car is a PA R title. Car was never hit hard. Somewhere in its history, this car was merged with a 85 SVO and painted black. This car has spent a lot of time sitting before it came to me. I have been driving the car for three years now, it drives great, and I’ve basically rebuilt everything on it.

Car is not perfect, but is pretty solid. Some detail work is needed to make it perfect. Everything is here, and it all works. Car runs SOLID mid 12’s at 110, has gone 12.38 at 112 +, 1.71 60’s. I have recently run the same 1/8th time as the best ever pass at only 21 psi, previous bests were at 25 psi. Car will also get 25+ miles per gallon highway driving. I’ve got better than 28 on trips to Ohio or whatever on interstate. Lot of people know this car and how it runs, just ask around. Car runs very well for what it is, and turns heads where ever it goes.

I am also interested in trades to some extent. What I really want to build next is a 63 Falcon or a Fairmont sedan (2.3T of course). I might also be interested in a V8 notch if the right car came around. Open to offers, looking for $5,000.00 to put a price on it, can be discussed further depending on spares, parts, and what you really want with it.

Lots of pictures here...... Some good pictures, others details during variuos stages of construction / assembly / modification.

    I've owned 3 Capri's and wouldn't mind a 4th. I may be interested if it's still around come spring.

This car is not a Capri, it is THE CAPRI.
Bob's cars are beyond fast when he puts one together.
Don't wait too long on this one.
Pictures don't do the car justice.

If its stil lhere in the spring, its probably not going to be for sale. Thats my dilema, adding a roll bar, light interior, big turbo, etc to this car, or start over with a lighter car.

That's a sweet looking capri. Getting hard to find one in that nice of shape. I wish that I had the $$$$$. Good luck with the sale.

    Hiya,

I'd be interested in looking at your Capri this weekend or so if you are going to be around. Sounds like a nice car.. I graduated in college in '86 from Ga Tech.. my room mate graduated the year before me... got a SVO.. none were available when I got out.. so I got a '86 GT.. always wanted one.. lol

Sorry guys, I sort of wrecked my knee and put everything in limbo for a while.

I can have you come see the car, but there are a few things I took apart getting ready fot the GGG weekend at PRP and never finished because of the knee. The ignition box is out of the car (was going to relocate it and wire in the proportional boost retard), and a few other details. Car is also filthy from sitting uncovered. It looks like i'm not going to get much done with the car for a few weeks anyway.

I've been thinking on this car a good bit latelty, might just keep it anyway, I cant drive it, but I like it ;)
