    Maybe buying a 4.6

Ok, im kinda bored with my Cobalt and have the chance to look into buying a 2000 Mustang GT 5-speed. Car is Black with black leather and has 69,000 on it.

Ok guys. I know NOTHING about the 4.6 platform. What all may i be getting myself in to. Any problems? This would be a daily driver so drivability in the winter? Any info would be great.

Oh yeah how is rougly 10K for a price?

Invest in some ballast Rio. Rear wheel drive + more weight bias in front than rear = stuck. You could always mount up some Blizzak's though

I had some experience with driving my 94 in the snow and it wasnt all that great but that was also without traction control which this 00 does and my 94 had 3.73s which this 00 would not.

Im just curious of how much better it will go then my 94.

I run Blizzaks on mine and toss 2 bags of tube sand in trunk. Haven't had a single issue in snow. Mine doesn't have traction control or anti-lock brakes.

I only used the traction control in my 02 gt when I was moving. It did help keep the car steady in the heavy snow. If you try and go from a stop and you get some wheelspin, the traction control would pull the fuel sooooo much that it was worse than leaving it off. I drove my 5speed gt through 2 winters.

Ok. This thing would definately not see many horsepower advancements.

Whats the gas mileage like on one of those?

18-20 is about right. Thats around what I was getting. I also drove from Pittsburgh to about 40min north of DC, and back up to the Breezewood exit and still had a 1/4 tank of gas. That was going between 75-85 the whole way on stock 3:27's

I get around 24 miles per gallon with the blower and 4.10's with my 2000GT and she's over 500rwhp. The 99-00's GT's have the windsor blocks that have slightly stronger blocks, rods, and have full floating rod pins. No real problems with the SOHC mod motors. The only thing to look for is if it has the metal cross over tube on the front of the plastic intake manifold. The OEM one had a plastic crossover and tend to crack and leak. Ford updated the manifold on later years to fix the problem, and ford did fix alot of them for free.

Honestly if you want a better DD/ winter vehicle the Cobalt is a smart choice. Better gas mileage, cheaper insurance, better in snow, cheaper upkeep. If you would rather have the Mustang ( and I can understand that!) thats a different story, but as far as a more economical choice I gotta go Cobalt.

This is all sounding good. I know the Cobaly is a much better daily driver but im just bored driving it a miss driving a mustang on a regualr basis alot since mine is no longer a street machine. This would be something i could drive everyday, drive to the track and make a few passes and drive home without worrying about something breaking.

The way im looking at it is that im going to be making payments on something. Might as well be something i enjoy driving.

Yeah new motor/trans is on my list now. I put the car into storage saturday so it highly unlikely it will see the light of day for at least a year due to the price of the engine/trans combo i want to put in it.

No the engine is still good but something is wrong with the transmission. It may be the torque converter or the tranny itself. Either way im not putting any more money into that tranny or motor.
