Knowing that you want to be able to go out and shoot and have fun with whatever gun you get and you want to be able to carry it when necessary...check out the new Beretta PX4 http://www.px4storm.com/index.aspx?m=53&did=55
The .40 will have the same amount of "felt" recoil as a 9mm due to the design of the gun....needless to say if you are interested in this particular gun...buy the .40

You can basically run over it with one of the galaxies, bury it in mud, and it'll still function properly/accurately. It's a very accurate gun and it's been subjected to full "military" style testing....I've done some research as it will more than likely be my next toy as well. :D

And it's MUCH smaller than a DE which makes it "slightly" more concealable/comfortable to carry than that .50 cal pig!

Then again...if you prefer your guns like your women (big and strong) then go for the DE

I'm gonna have to reccomend a 9mm. They are a delight to shoot. I would stay away from glock personally. SIG is the bomb. I carry a .40, but when I go to the range I prefer my crappy EAA 9mm. Sure it jams once every other clip, but the 9 is so controllable. My CZ .40 cal is a decent piece for a shade under $250, but beign a standard size I might look into getting a compact piece to carry around.

    It's like Ebay for rednecks!

Colin...if you want to shoot anything let me know...we can always head down to the range and blast few hundred rounds. I have a 9mm EAA Witness that is my all time favorite "range" gun that I may be willing to part with if you are interested.

This a good write up of the 9mm I have...mine has a Hogue grip sleeve as well. http://www.gunweek.com/2003/feature1001.html
