As a Business owner I feel its a necessity to carry, I personally carry my S&W M&P .40 EVERYWHERE the law allows, on the back burner, and my past carry unit was my Sig p6 (9mm), this is actually my favorite piece. The P6 was manufactured in 1980, and was designed for law enforcement (No Safety) I sent this Gun out for some regular maintainance and the MP that was doing the work offered to buy it on the spot, haha. Both guns are fully loaded with HydroShocks at all times, and ready for action.

If youve never owned a gun, or carried before id suggest going downtown 1st to file for you concealed weapons permit since it takes about 3 weeks to get. You can head out to the gun shop the same day to purchase if youd like, but id look into a Pistol Safety course as well, it could never hurt to be properly trained to carry.

Anyways my S&W is a bit much to carry (Weight wise) so ive been in the market for the G27 (glock) ive held this gun a million times before and cant wait to go purchase it.

I agree with what was stated previously regarding the reliability of the weapon, make sure whatever you do get, works when you need it to. would truly suck to draw, and not be able to fire.
    just my $.02

    Great info - Thanks!!!

    I'm looking for a model 23 in 357 sig, a little more knock down power than a .40 ( I have a S&W .40 now)

And they're absolutely awesome to shoot as well. Very accurate pieces.

Colin, if you're going to be around on Sunday I might hit up the range if you want to tag along. I'll take my S&W 357 and my Bersa 380. I might even take my Mossberg 12 with some 3" 00 buckshot just for you!

Personally, this is what I carry:

Colin....do you want the gun just for concealed carry or do you plan on shooting it at the range? How often do you intend to carry it on you? There are alot of carry guns that are phenomenal when needed for personal defense, however they aren't typically as accurate as some other offerings than can be carried and also be used for target shooting/plinking. Assuming I know you lol....I would guess that you'd rarely actually carry the gun on you however you'de probable take it to the range a few times a year. Get something you can have fun shooting as well as use for a carry gun when needed. I agree with everyone on here regarding Glock's & Sigs....the last time you went shooting, you were noticeably more comfortable shooting a revolver (and ALOT more accurate) as compared to a semi auto.

For the most part I will take it to the range BUT I want to carry in certain situations. For example when I am out cruising the 64 I want to have it on me. I plan on doing a lot of hiking in the near future - want to have a gun then.

If you already have a Model 23, you can simply just buy and change the barrel to shoot .357 Sig. Everything else is the same.

    Glock 23c (.40) or 32c (.357 sig)...mid pack "cost wise"

Sigs (most expensive) are probably gonna have too big of a grip to be comfortable to you but hold one anyways.

CZ75's (least expensive) have slimmer grip profiles and would be suitable as well

All 3 of these manufacturers guns are extremely reliable and you can't go wrong with them....I agree with Ed however and encourage you to get a .40 over anything else as it's powerful and inexpensive to shoot.

Go up to Gander Mountain and hold/dry fire one of the aforementioned handguns first....if it feels right, buy one on gunbroker.com and have it shipped to Phil's Archery in the Rocks

Ammo would be a little more, but you could always go with a 10mm if you're looking for a wicked little round. Glock makes it in a nice concealable piece, the Glock 29.

The PA State Police used this round for a short while, but it was decided that it was to "inhumane" () or devastating a round so they went to the .40 cal.

that's funny...I was going to recommend the 10mm...unfortunately the factory rounds are so "detuned" and expensive, it's not worth it over the .40. .40 and 9mm cost the same from what I've seen at Gander Mountain and Dicks (UMC or American Eagle for plinking).

I still want a Glock 10mm.....one of these days

My buddy has a S&W 38 snub nose and prefers carring it over his Glock 45. I have a S&W sigma 380 auto, which is decent provided you find ammo that doesn't jam it. I also have a S&W model 29 44 MAG, which is way to big to conceal, but I can bulls eye the thing at 100 yards.

Another reliable, accurate, and fun little gun for anyone in the market for a new toy would be a Bersa Thunder. It's essentially a Walther PPK or Sig 230/232 just a hell of alot less expensive http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=83758154

I was so impressed with my brothers bersa .380 that I decided to buy one for the old lady....although I enjoy shooting it more than her. And for the cc guys, you can buy some .380 rounds (Cor-bon) for self defense that are more powerful than most 9mm rounds.

My vote goes to the Glock 27 for deeper concealment with the capability to carry 12rnds with a factory mag with a +2 base, this is the combo I carry daily. Or if you prefer something a little bigger the Glock 23 is just as good a carry gun plus a good range gun. If you prefer 9mm then the G26 or G19 will do the trick, just use good ammo and you will be fine, I like the winchester ranger ammo.
