Bout to flip out!!

i was having a problem with my f150 not starting. if you turn it over, all it does is click from the selnoid. i replaced it...same thing. i then replaced the starter...same thing. i can catch it in gear since its a stick but thats gettin old. what gives?

Check the battery

check the starter safety switch on the clutch pedal

Starter could be bad or possibly a bad connection at the starter. Have the battery tested just in case also.

I assume if your solenoid is clicking, it's working because that's what it does. First things first, check battery votage, don't be fooled however, in some cases battery voltage can appear fine but once under load disappear, so autozone would be your best bet to take the battery and have it charged and load tested. Your starter could also be the culprit. You can also bench test one of these too. i'm not sure if autozone has the setup to do this or not though, they might actually rent the tester.. You really don't even need it as long as you have a battery charger.

Selonoid clicking is an indication of a functioning selonoind and clutch switch. Starters are grounded threw the housing to the block. Clean that area of the block before you put new equipment on. Disconnect the negitive terminal, and jumper the seloniod. Then check resistence from the positive terminal to the starter. If thats less than .3, remove the jumper and hook the battery back up. Then check the resistence from the starter housing to the ground terminal. You will find the problem if you do this.

A simple Digital Multimeter will do the job. Heck, I've seen them as cheap as $5 at Harbor Freight if you're not looking ot spend the $'s for a good Fluke one.
