true street race at track rental

Hello guys, I am checking to see if there will be any interest in a true street race at the Hollywood Knights track rental this coming year. The rental will be held at Norwalk, or Quaker City or Thompson, not sure yet but usually Quaker or Norwalk. We are considering having a 30-40 mile cruise BEFORE the track opens, then having a "no time" street race class. We are in the very early stages of organizing this but I wanted to see if there was any interest from you guys. You can still come and test n tune if you don't want to do the cruise/race. Right now, I know you will probably need a 10 second car just to be in the hunt. These guys are the ones I street race with from Akron, Cleveland, and Columbus and they have some FAST cars. Some of them run 8's. The names will chosen from a hat as to who you race and there will be no times displayed on the boards but you can maybe get a time slip if you want at the end of the track with YOUR time only. If you have any suggestions please let's hear it!

Well for one, that might take too much time away from the test n tuners. The other reason we are trying to fly under the radar on this "event" because insurance is alot more money if it's a track rental/event vs. a track rental for test n tune. The 30 mile cruise would be BEFORE the track opens and will start in a parking lot like wal mart or something. We would finish at track in time to line up in a staging lane where they will sit and only be allowed to refuel and check air pressure. Personally I would LOVE to do it the way you suggest Pj but can you think of a way to make that work? Maybe do a couple pre qualifying races before the rental at a couple different tracks? The faster guys don't want the clocks on, the guys in Akron and Massilon and that, so maybe they can pre qualify and run 8th mile times or something?

At NMRA races, everyone runs together, no real classes, its the results that set the "winners", Everyone goes for the drive, comes back into the lanes, three hot laps, fastest overall average wins, then the thre passes are averaged for everyone to get the best 9,10,11,12,13,14,15 average. I've seen winners who had no intent of that being their average, just had a bad pass that worked out that way.

    Im game too!!
Sounds good to me, that 30 mile cruise will be nothing for me considering I'll drive the car over 100 miles roundtrip just to race it there.

you should just do what the flashlight drags do now

they give out 16 top dog passes and you have to beat one of them thru the day( just make sure they dont hide all day ) to get a pass and whoever has one left a certain time of day gets into the final rounds and then they race till last one standing

you mean have the track be less than 1/8th mile long, overpriced concessions and packed to capacity with "big dog" cars that got unloaded off the trailer down the street and couldn't do a 40 mile cruise under their own power before racing?

    no, im not bitter.

Zeli is turning into a circus no doubt. I like the thoughts of this event. 30 mile cruise weeds out the true street cars.

no my response was how they ran the big dog competition the last event at zelie this year.

the fld's play the role they are designed for

if you were running an event would you turn away cars?

they even have a top tuner class for your kinda car and a top street competitor class for fast real street cars

the big dog event is a show for the fans just like when you go to a national event and they bring in some funny car or something to race

when i was in the big dog race last year we did a street cruise then came back and ran

they are always changing the big dog competiton up

if you have some suggestions tell them, they will listen

Insurance is going to be an issue regardless of what you do at the drag strip. If any club organizes an event, they will be liable during all portions of the event should an accident happen. The legal action will go to the club hosting the event, regardless if they caused the incident. Thus if the the hosting club does not have a specific liability insurance policy for said event, the club leadership wil then be held personally liable for any lawsuits regardless of whose fault the accident was. This is why the "Yellow Pages" are as thick as they are, too many attorneys in the world..........
